Stop it with the rhetorical questions, they don't make any sense. Everyone breaks the law. My dumbass neighbors stuff their recycling bin with food waste and polyethylene bags filled with old blankets their dogs sleeps on. Thats dumping in the goddamn civic waste stream.

First of all, if you get paranoid delusions you're smoking too much.

Criminality is freedom, no doubt about it. Do you think vice laws are in place to keep people from hurting themselves? Please. Its to keep the government in business sending SWAT teams to bust minorities.

I suppose I should qualify my recommendation, though, for the <i>safety officers</i> of Peakoil.com.

Unless you're an unstable twit who believes All Dogs Go To Heaven, smoke some weed.

How can you criticize people for having pets as some kind of emotional crutch when you need drugs to get by?

You can make carrying capacity arguments if you like but lay off the holier than thou crap.


Why would I make carrying capacity arguments when they've been crystallized so succinctly before, by such heavy hitters as Montequest, Catton, Malthus, Hardin, Diamond, etc., and so forth?

I get by without drugs most of the time. But interacting with people with subnormal IQs is just too onerous without a puff of the ol' greezy.

I have too many pets* but no babies. Several of the pets have just shown up on the doorstep. I don't have the heart to kill them, I'm afraid. If someone put a baby on my doorstep I would probably want to keep it too. :(

1 dog
5 sheep (not so much pets as a tax dodge)
4 turkeys
8 chickens

But I'm pretty darn stupid and childish. Oh to be massively intelligent! How much less happy I would be!


Oh, I'm sure you know. Just look out in your yard. Relatively speaking, of course. You'd be a lot smarter without the cats.

Human babies are another issue. Personally, I'm in favor of aggressive amniocentesis and preemptive abortion and gene therapy. But, this goes back to my thesis that, if you can't convince on the small stuff you can't convince on the big stuff either. And the baleful stare of the Earth-Goddess is as implacable an power as anything in Greek mythology. The "economists" at the UN think they have a depersonalized solution... simply raise the standard of living for women around the world, as it falls for everyone else. I think Lovelock is a doomer because he recognizes that technology is a form of logic and logic is useless against Womb-an.

Its gone because that is the nature of the Internet. What is not updated is buried in an avalanche of bits and bytes. This is the dust in the wind that Tom Petty sang of. You eat calories, you type stuff up, no one reads it and it is forgotten. In the meantime the Earth is hurtling through space at 67,276 miles per hour. (Thats the instantaneous heliocentric velocity... subject to change as large sub-light asteroids slam into the planet.)

To that end I ceased my involvement with it and reinvested my time and energy into things which I believe are more rewarding and practical uses for time, like basic education and fostering sustainable living relationships with people in real life. I would invite you to do the same even though I cannot recommend the choice for anyone who values happiness over knowledge. The two are unfortunately incompatible. To be happy is to be ignorant.

For example, the period of time between initiating a search for information and actually finding useful information on Peakoil.com. At least in the interim you might experience hope. But like a rat in the maze, satisfaction is fleeting.

So without further ado, I am reiterating my original argument, for its own sake, namely that: Pets are a reflection of our disembodiment from ecological reality.

I am way, way smarter than you. and that Pet owners are childish, stupid people.
