$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('americandream', 'E')xactly. I find it remarkable that these experts continue to argue endlessly

What "experts" are "arguing"? There is broad consensus in various scientific fields that we are messing up the planet quite seriously. The "endless arguement" about finer points is the process called "Science" but that doesn't (or shouldn't) distract from the major theme of the scientists' findings. I don't know how much clearer scientists are expected to be about the state of the planet and the threats to the future of Homo sapiens because of human activity.

Seriously. What more are they supposed to tell us?

"World Scientists' Warning to Humanity (1992)
Some 1,700 of the world's leading scientists, including the majority of Nobel laureates in the sciences, issued this appeal in November 1992. The World Scientists' Warning to Humanity was written and spearheaded by the late Henry Kendall, former chair of UCS's board of directors.

INTRODUCTION

Human beings and the natural world are on a collision course. Human activities inflict harsh and often irreversible damage on the environment and on critical resources. If not checked, many of our current practices put at serious risk the future that we wish for human society and the plant and animal kingdoms, and may so alter the living world that it will be unable to sustain life in the manner that we know. Fundamental changes are urgent if we are to avoid the collision our present course will bring about."

etc.

http://www.ucsusa.org/about/1992-world-scientists.html

and like that, endlessly. If we choose to ignore their warnings, it is our fault, not the fault of the "experts" who keep "arguing over finer points" (the process known as "science").

Ludi

Whilst there is as much confusion pervading this debate as there was in the heyday of market deregulation propagandising, I prefer to suspend belief in one or other view and go with my common sense.

However, AGW deniers are asking too much of me in holding to the view the man is incapable of ever impacting the planet in the current capitalist paradigm so to that extent, I prefer the caution of the AGW camp.

But to be honest, average Joes such as myself haven't a clue as to whats going on when we have to contend with contrary information purporting to demonstrate that the planet risks both warming terminally due to CO2 excess AND cooling due to sunspot absences.

What is a poor lawyer like me to make of all of this? However, cornucopians ask too much of me given their lamentable record in modelling the victory of free markets so I say, let AGW concerns prevail despite the uncertainty.

I suspect you are giving far too much weight to the "contrary information." But that's just my "average Joe" assessment of the information.

I most probably am which is why I defer to common sense rather than be swayed by risky interest groups with poor histories at modelling economics let alone the planet's eco-tolerances.

I wonder if there are still people who believe the industry-paid scientists who said that smoking cigarettes is not harmful?

This is an interesting article: http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2006/sep/19/ethicalliving.g2
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')he denial industryFor years, a network of fake citizens' groups and bogus scientific bodies has been claiming that science of global warming is inconclusive. They set back action on climate change by a decade. But who funded them? Exxon's involvement is well known, but not the strange role of Big Tobacco. In the first of three extracts from his new book, George Monbiot tells a bizarre and shocking new story

ExxonMobil is the world's most profitable corporation. Its sales now amount to more than $1bn a day. It makes most of this money from oil, and has more to lose than any other company from efforts to tackle climate change. To safeguard its profits, ExxonMobil needs to sow doubt about whether serious action needs to be taken on climate change. But there are difficulties: it must confront a scientific consensus as strong as that which maintains that smoking causes lung cancer or that HIV causes Aids. So what's its strategy?

The website Exxonsecrets.org, using data found in the company's official documents, lists 124 organisations that have taken money from the company or work closely with those that have. These organisations take a consistent line on climate change: that the science is contradictory, the scientists are split, environmentalists are charlatans, liars or lunatics, and if governments took action to prevent global warming, they would be endangering the global economy for no good reason. The findings these organisations dislike are labelled "junk science". The findings they welcome are labelled "sound science".

I am surprised given all the chest beating by people who despise Glenn Beck that nobody has been talking about his emergency appendectomy Wednesday. From the sound of things he is recovering quickly and will be back to work Monday.

I heard this also.
The problem is, of course, that not only is economics bankrupt, but it has always been nothing more than politics in disguise... economics is a form of brain damage.

Glenn in recovery
November 6, 2009 - 4:20 ET

After being in pain most of the night, Glenn ended up leaving the radio program early yesterday to see a doctor. Turned out the pain was appendicitis and Glenn underwent surgery. Everything went well and he is now in recovery and doing fine. Glenn and his wife Tania are so thankful for all the kind words, prayers and support from everyone. Well, almost everyone. Those compassionate loving liberal bloggers were bummed things didn't end differently for Glenn.

The scary thing is that was a pretty accurate portrayal of Glen Beck's insanity.

I see a mod on here deleted an old post in this thread just because the author didn't agree with his (the mods) opinion of Glenn Beck. Yet you talk about the evils of government censoring the internet.

Good old fashioned ad hominem attacks, now that is the level of maturity I have come to expect on PO.com the last couple of years. Nicely played.
