And tell us in exactly what scenario you feel you will be capable of becoming such a "Peak defensivist"?

So much talk...
So little action.

I have no intention of becoming that kind of peak defensivist, whatever i originally meant by that i don't know.

I was asking a question about what would happen to prisons and how an ambitious hypothetical individual could possibly plan to use them in the future.

As to "so much talk and so little action" Im not about to go out and buy a prison. :-D

If we are supposed to be creatively discussing plans for the future, isn't a large part of that ideas and questions?

I find discussing cause and effect of what might be, gives a new perspective to the things i am actively doing. :)

If you feel these sorts of posts are inappropriate here, i apologize for mis-posting and will post somewhere else.

I didnt really know where else to put things like this, i am still a bit new here, didnt mean to clutter the board.

Pops is the board "Doer". He makes it his job to come in and sabotage any thread where people discuss hypotheticals. Anything abstract you post will inevitably get a "What are YOU DOING?" troll response from Pops. :-)

Don't let it bother you, I never do :-) There are plenty of folks here besides Pops who like analysing abstract questions. This of course leads to plenty of trolling work for Pops. :-) He is however a great person to discuss anything practical, and he is what he says he is, a real DOER. However, he has the misconception he holds the moral high ground here because of this, and he disses people wo don't measure up to his "Make a Plan and Work It" philosophy of life. If you want to discuss abstract stuff, concentrate on the resonses from people who value this type of discussion. Pops does not, he thinks its a waste of time.

Most thing you might want to do you might want to talk about first. Except maybe taking a crap, no one wants to hear about that.

Seriously though, people often get inspiration from wild hypotheticals.

That said, I do think this thread is misplaced, though interesting. My "doing" is similar to RE's - stay the hell out of prison!

In an emergency, the prison population will be executed. There may be some exceptions to this such as "camps" where there are no fences. Then they will have more space for new offenders. The last thing they want when there is an emergency is hardcore criminals running around while they are trying to keep law and order.

In the US, approximately half of all the inmates are "hardcore criminals." Many are repeat smalltime offenders, many of drug possession and sale, theft, etc. so there would be no justification to execute them. They would probably be released, which is already happening in some places (California, I think, has released or is planning release of many prisoners).

This of course means crime will go up even more because these people have no way of making a living otherwise.

Tougher employee pre-screening including background checks, drug screening and the lack of work history, education, skills, knowledge, reliable transportation, drivers licenses, plus past debt, child support etc make it difficult for criminals to find good paying jobs or affordable housing.

Many criminals without support of friends or family end up back in the system. Often the only housing they can afford happens to be located in drug infested high crime areas where the temptation to sell, use, abuse drugs and commit other crimes is high.

Prisoners request extra jail time

Postby midnight-gamer » Wed 14 Oct 2009, 12:45:44

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'W')right said the letters essentially asked: "Can I stay the winter?"
"My take on it is the economy is dumping so far that jail isn't looking as bad," Wright said.

Wright said the inmates requesting an extended stay at the Brentwood facility have been denied."It's not a homeless shelter. I can only hold people on legal orders from the court," he said.

Theft, armed robbery, gang activity, all manner of crime has become common in southern NH. There has been a dramatic spike in crime within just the last four years.

I'm surprised no one has made a Prison Survival video game (to my knowledge, anyway).

Seems like the target market (male youth) already has a fascination with prison culture. Prison shows are plastered all over MSNBC in the off-hours. Other shows abound. Why no video game?

Could be funny as hell, too.

My brother was being harassed by a bailiff and considered battering him. He asked if it'd be self defense if the bailiff started it. When I said maybe, but you would still get done for excessive force. He actually said prison doesn't seem like that bad an option at the moment!

There really isn't any other place for a lot of people. We need to start up prison farms again. They need to be somewhat self-supporting.

The prisoners could learn how to do something as well.

They might not want to stay extra time if they had to grub up potatoes in the middle of November or something.

Sometimes you northern boys are a little slow.

Louisiana State Penitentiary Angola

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'A')ngola (also known as "The Farm") is the Louisiana State Penitentiary and is the largest maximum security prison in the United States with 5,000 inmates and 1,800 staff members. It is located on an 18,000 acre (73 km²) property that was previously the Angola and other plantations owned by Isaac Franklin in unincorporated West Feliciana Parish close to the Mississippi border.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'A')ngola is still run as a working farm; Warden Cain once said that the key to running a peaceful maximum security prison was that "you've got to keep the inmates working all day so they're tired at night

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'M')any prisoners in Angola are serving sentences which are so long that there is no realistic prospect of parole e.g. 60 years or more. Inmates who develop a terminal illness are treated at a secure hospice within the grounds of the prison, and subsequently buried in the prison cemetery if their family cannot afford to claim and bury the body.

Parchman Penitentiary Mississippi

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'M')ississippi State Penitentiary, also known as Parchman Farm, is the oldest prison and the only maximum security prison for men in the state of Mississippi, USA. It is located on 18,000 acres (73 km²) in Parchman, Mississippi, and was built in 1901. It has beds for 4,840 inmates. Inmates work on the prison farm (formerly plantation) and in manufacturing workshops.

We have a couple of places where the inmates work the woods here in Maine. They have a sawmill up in Charleston, but that's a minimum security prison.

I believe the poseur thug decadent 20-something brats that live across the street from me are fascinated by this as well. They occasionally do some stupid act or another in the hopes that they will be picked up for a few days. It gives them "street cred" by saying stuff like "yeah, this guy that I met in jail says he will give me a discount on a tattoo"....

Of course, the mother, a desperate housewife with health issues, is frantic, spending literally thousands and having to cash out her 401K to keep this little brat out of the joint.

Pathetic. I'd like to go over and "batter" them myself....

Here's the problem: Not enough young males growing up in a house with a strong male role model that will inflict corporal punishment on them if they step out of line. They end up dismotivated, decadent, and doing the above crap to make a social statement.....

The fact that a lot of these little jerks are unemployed just makes the matters worse, and provides an excellent feedback loop. Wait for them to get some little girl pregnant and another generation of this stuff pops out into the world.
