Read the article...repeat after me...US leading the way...lots of natural gas.....in formations which are everywhere...and my comment was that we won't get into wholesale conversion until we use up some more of the odd trillions of barrels of oil we have yet to use.

Now if we can just get you to stop making up science disciplines of various sorts ( is that what Slippery Rock did, got bored cranking out public school teachers, sitting around the faculty lounge one day, said, "Hey! I got an idea! Lets pretend we can teach science to those who want to be snooty to the teaching students but can't get into a real college, we can charge them more, make them stick around for a Master degree, get a warm body in a seat for a few more years, and then pretend they know more than the kids heading out to teach spelling to kindergarden kids!") we'll be set!

I spent 1-1/2 semesters in it.

Halfway through semester #2, I received an offer to go consulting internationally, and I had those work documents, a passport, and a plane ticket in my hand so fast it made my wife's head spin.

I still use stories from that experience to make points within the administration of where I work now.

This natural gas is a great thing if it works. There is a lot of Marcellus shale that will yield gas.

I feel like this is the last gasp of a planet that's been tapped out.

This may be the last energy with a decent EROEI we'll get.

Time to take it and make lots of renewable energy collectors with it.

This could be the resource that makes a transition possible, like T-Boone thought.

It's like we found a 20 in the couch cushion when thought we had no money left.

Are we going to spend it on groceries or are we going to blow it on beer?

Good points Revi. But I think humanity will set fire to it's finite endowment of NG as fast as it can be produced. And it won't take all that long to accomplish either.

When "the last few drops of fuel" actually translates to "enough energy to power the planet at current rates for another century or two without breaking a sweat", I think its time to tone down the hyperbole?

And if they can clean up the Ohio River, you can't say that they can't do the same elsewhere.

Our resident peak oil denier strikes again. You really don't get the term do you shorty? For BAU to continue we don't need to power the planet at current rates; we need an ever increasing supply of power.

Right now 90%+ of Chinese and Indians do not own a car. They are very busily building them to run on OIL. The entire system is built on growth of oil supply not stability. Even if your wildly optimistic assertion was true we are still in deep shite as stable oil equals flatlining production.

Not on a per capita basis we don't. And we certainly can change the amount per capita as we've already demonstated back in the 80's.

Just because things are the way they are TODAY doesn't mean they have to be that way TOMORROW. What is it about perfectly obvious change which irritates Peakers so much? There used to be more electrics on the road in the US than ICE powered ones....gasoline only won because it was CHEAP. Maybe random wasteful transport won't be as cheap as it was in the past, it certainly isn't going away just because crude CONTINUES ( its been ongoing since 1969 or so, lets not forget! ) to become gradually more expensive.

Utter nonsense. Whose going to tell the Chinese or Indians to use their SUV's or sports hatch's less frequently? The same ads that implore us on the one hand to save the planet and in the next, to buy super cars with sex appeal?

The capitalist is not willingly going to sacrifiie his profit margins to save the planet or its scarce resources. Most of my business clients are like you..sceptical to the hilt, aggressively so in fact. They have a good reason. They know that any regulation of the market will hit their bottom line. Any they own the lobbyists, politicians and media all over this world.
