$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Pretorian', 'e')eh.. no, not really. First, those figures are in "international" dollars, which basically means how much those drugs bought in Georgia would cost if they were bought in USA or something like that

Not quite. The PPP international dollar thing is about trying to correlate the purchasing power of various currencies which doesn't always equate to exchange rates. They're more interested in trying to figure out how many lari's for a liter of vodka and how many dollars for the same bottle. That sort of thing.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'S')econd, I sincerely doubt that WHO officers were hiding in the trees with spyglasses and watching how much each doctor gets under the table over there; most likely is that some clerk maintaining the WHO website just divided funding of health care ministry on total population and multiplied it by that magic PPP coefficient.

Again. no. More detailed statistics available here: link

2006 Georgia statistics:
Government expenditure on health as a percentage of total national expenditure on health: 21.5%
Per capita government expenditure on health: $76 (ppp intl)
Per capita total expenditure on health: $355 (ppp intl)

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'A')s for longetivity, my stats are from CIA's factbook, they do seem to be more diligent with updates and stuff.

The stats you quoted are official government statistics which are likely quite inaccurate for reasons explained on the WHO site. Most particularly there has been a huge influx of refugees who are unregistered, 1/5 of the country is outside control of the government, and the government charges a tax to record vital statistics so many births and deaths aren't recorded.

Well, ppps again. What is the coefficient that they are using for Georgia -- 2, 3 , 4? That makes me wrong about Georgia's government spending funny money on healthcare? Surely if you add other possible venues of spending like military healthcare, training hospitals of sorts for medical students funded through a different ministry, finally treating their own bureaucrats overseas at governmental cost you can come up with something like 76 divided by ppp coefficient.
Same with total espendture , they probably counted sales of all drugs, medicinal herbs, all medical equipment for both hospital and domestic use, dental expences and so on, up to hand sanitizers or something. Average salary there is about $50-80 per month and 13.6% is an official unemployment fugure, pensions are around $25-40 per month, so if everyone including unemployed, children is shellling out 78.5% of those $355 every year, even with ppps coef, its prettty grand.

The "per capita expenditure on health at average exchange rate to US$" is $147, so about 2.4.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'A')verage salary there is about $50-80 per month and 13.6% is an official unemployment fugure, pensions are around $25-40 per month, so if everyone including unemployed, children is shellling out 78.5% of those $355 every year, even with ppps coef, its prettty grand.

I couldn't find personal income statistics, but the GDP is $4700 (ppp) per person, so like I said, that $355 is a much smaller percentage of their economy than our $6700 is.

How ridiculous.
I know people who are uninsured and those idiotic stereotypes don’t describe any of them.
Most of them are offered an insurance policy (like at Wal-Mart) that does basically nothing for them so it isn’t worth it, and many people simply cannot afford insurance, but put their children on government healthcare.
This is quiet stupid really; there are a lot of uninsured or under insured who simply cannot afford it.
:-x

Your anecdotal evidence means nothing. Stats prove that there are not 47 million uninsured because they can't all afford it.

I didn’t say everyone who wasn’t insured, was so because they couldn’t afford it.
However, there are MANY people who don’t have insurance because they simply cannot afford it.
I think a much bigger issue is the underinsured, because you can have crappy insurance (like Wal-Mart insurance) but still be ‘insured’.

You were saying !! LOL

Obama: I used to say 47 million uninsured. Now, it's 30 million. http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opini ... 37842.html

With only six months in office, Barry draws a huge crowd in protest of his government. America is awake and pissed!

Eight Years Ago... Or Was It 230?
http://market-ticker.denninger.net/archives/1430-Eight-Years-Ago...-Or-Was-It-230.html

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'J')ust eight short years ago a handful of madmen flew aircraft into buildings in the United States on purpose, killing over 3,000 Americans and threatening to destabilize our financial and political systems.

One day later, on 9/12/2001, America came together and said "Like Hell."

230 years ago a handful of madmen thought they would dictate to those across an ocean that they should pay taxes yet have no representation in how that money was spent. They said "Like Hell" and went to war.

Two days ago over a million Americans descended on Washington DC and stood on The Mall, rallying around a singular viewpoint and position:

YOU HAVE CROSSED THE LINE WASHINGTON.

Ha, well if you read the page linked to, they put that picture up to compare it to the protest on 9/12 cause some people were saying there were only a few thousand or something like that.

AlexdeLarge got a little excited it seems and posted the wrong pic up here.

I love that headline. A "conservative Woodstock". Which is to say it's like Woodstock but without the sex, drugs, or rock and roll. Basically that leaves a bunch of people in a muddy field with poor hygiene and no bathrooms. Sounds more like a refugee camp than Woodstock.

I have a close friend who is a genuine conservative. Polite, opinionated,
informed, impassioned, and able to communicate to anyone without
resorting to calling them trite names or labels or declaring them an
illegitimate life form based on any disagreements that are manifest
in a frank conversation. We need these people in the debate.

Television media stars who make bucks from culture clash
vampirism and drag iconic human props to recite formula
testimonies to crowds of enraged zealots (on the left and
the right) are barnstorming the nation at this time.

He went to a teabag event and I asked for his honest opinion.
He said something needs to happen to get real dialog happening
again that is inclusive of conservative thought and principles, but
that this was much of an event where a group of professional
picadors put their lances into horse's rumps to get them whipped up
for a bull fight.

I hope he avoided the TV camera, I have way too much respect for
him to see him lumped in with what he encountered there.
