Can we rock after peak oil?

Unread postby johnmarkos » Fri 22 Apr 2005, 18:44:02

Peak oil threatens the fun for people who like rock n' roll music. Think about it. Rock requires amplifiers, lights, mixing boards, steel, and many other manufactured goods.

Is rock dead? Or can we keep on rockin' in the peak world?

If we're going to have death and destruction, I'd far rather it be the heavy metal or punk rock kind where people express their nihilistic rage through song and don't actually hurt anybody.

Peace,
John

Rock shows may decline somewhat, sometime much later.

I don't think rock will die within the next 50 years. Electricity will still be available I believe.

Rock is already dead to me. These days, I prefer Country Western music. I liked the late 70s and early 90s rock though. Metallica, AC/DC, Pantera, LA Guns specifically.

Yeah, that's what I think, too.

Really, how much power, average does a powerfull amp take? Not very much thinks I. You could provide it with a small hydro setup or person power.

I've written a Peak Oil album:
Brownout: Folk from the Oil Crash.

It'll be gradually released online.

But I'm also in a rock band. The days when rock bands strode across the earth like dinosaur Gods are almost up, but I do love the music.

I know the feeling. Once painters had the same position and the public was enthralled by their work. Now its just a bunch of elitists getting subsidies from the Gov.

Watch the damned, god bless ya
They're gonna break their chains, hey
No, you can't stop them, god bless ya
They're coming to get you and then
You get your balls to the wall, man
BAAALLLLLS TO THE WALLLLLLL!
The unnecessary felling of a tree, perhaps the old growth of centuries, seems to me a crime little short of murder. ~Thomas Jefferson

Here's the shit, right here:

Image

Dance all night with a bottle in my hand,
a bottle in my hand, a bottle in my hand.
Dance all night with a bottle in my hand,
just before the day give the fiddler a dram.

I left my jawbone sittin' on a fence
Ain't seen nothing of my jawbone since.
Walk on home, didn't get a long.
Here comes Sally with the big boots on.

Who's been here since I've been gone
Pretty little girl with a red dress on.
She put in off, I put it on.
Here comes Sally with the big boots on.
