Peak Oil Website

Why is po.com turning into a bunch of junk? This proves po members are fair-weather fans.

No wonder nobody takes us serious. I can't even take us seriously .

99% of the posts are worthless rants about nothing related directly to peak oil

The current survey is titled "Little Green Men"

99.9% of po members have never worked in the oil industry

OF2 actually provides solid data to make his points but most discredit him even though they don't have any evidence to prove him wrong.

Is this site just a place for middle aged men to fantasize about doom and gloom because they are jealous of those around them who are actually doing something with their lives instead of sitting behind a computer and hoping for total destruction?

I expect a wave of newbies after Earth 2100 airs if there is any degree of peak oil content in it. Try to make a good first impression and I hope the site stays up.

Unless oil prices top $100 and people actually start talking about peak oil then I expect the newbies to lurk and then soon leave. If they are actually looking for po related material then they will not find much here. If they are looking for end of the modern world chat then they might stick around until the provide differing arguements and are driven off by our self-proclaimed experts.

With the dollar and treasuries tanking again, and Ben printing trillions of dollars, the price of oil will continue to rise from $68, don't worry.

I keep looking for more good conservation ideas, but I don't know if any more really exist right now. Electric cars, PV cells, tax credits for investing in such technology, have really stalled out, it seems. This sucks because if oil production really falls off a cliff in the 20-teens as I expect, society is going to be gang raped without the lube.

In the mean time, I expand my garden, work on my rainwater collection system and always look for new ways to conserve.

Economic depression (and perhaps collapse?) and geopolitical instability aren't related to peak oil and to resource limits in general...? How about the recent discussion of the issues with the JIT inventory system in America, or the homesteading/do-it-yourself posts?

Don't get me wrong there are many good topics but there are many more that are worthless.

There is too much focus is on fantasy doomsteads, prepping, and doomsday scenarios rather than actual discussion about peak oil.

This site is for peakoil but everyone skips that part and begins talking about doom. Then anyone like OF2 actually provides evidence contrary to popular po opinion he is discredited. In my mind OF2 has more credibility than most po members because he actually provides evidence and lets the facts do the talking.

I am guilty also but I at least make an effort to provide po material and give an opinion based on oil industry experience rather than someone reading something online and they think they are an expert.

Exactly right.

The web is infested with posters who simply sit at their PCs all day regurgitating crap they read from similar posters elsewhere.

I'm not in the oil industry ... BUT ... when I heard about Peak Oil I joined a professional society of oil engineers and scientists so that I could attend their meetings and talk to REAL people who understand about oil.

It was expensive and took time BUT at least I can say that I have discussed PO with mudloggers, petroleum engineers and top energy company directors etc.

What society of "oil" engineers did you join and where are the meetings?

Here is the Society of Petroleum Engineers requirements for membership.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', ' ')I am employed in work related to the petroleum industry, AND I have a university degree equivalent to a 4-year Bachelors degree or higher in engineering, basic or applied sciences; or 2-year science or engineering degree; or a 4-year degree in a field other than science or engineering; OR 6 years of active practice in support of petroleum engineering or in the application of science in the petroleum industry.

I'm not sure that all the doomstead talk is fantasising. Last I saw, mine was real. This is an integral part of preparations, IMO.

I'm sure things will pick up when the price goes through the roof again.

Many people have including Ludi.

That should tell po members something when someone like Ludi takes a break.

I spend time at both sites. PO.com has good information that TOD.com does not have. The problem is more and more of the new stuff is junk and it takes more and more time to find something useful. It is almost impossible to find new stuff about peak oil these days.

Don't worry. She put me on ignore at my suggestion. That should solve things for her once and for all. With all the people I have on ignore, who am I to discourage others from doing it to me if they don't like my netiquette?

Better keep them out of the P&CC forum. That will be to much for them and think we are nuts. Then when they go to the OTW forum it will seal the deal and we will be certifiable to them and then they will leave.

Don't be so cynical.

The Energy Institute in London - as an Associate Member, so no need to be in the industry.
