$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('pstarr', '
')I know. It is hard for a cornie to believe we are running out of things.

pstarr, that was perfect! :)

The concept of impermanence is really tough for some to grasp. But we all now have front row seats in the final and epic demonstration of what impermanence means. Watch closely.

i like pstarr's comments, there are times when things are abundant and times when things are tight....... its common sense and oil has had its day........

its hard to look back in histroy and apply it to the present day

just one point i think is worth keeping in mind though

it doesnt have to be the absolute end of everything

humans throughout histroy have been obsessed with the absolute demise of humanity, and this is just a way of not actually confronting their own individual mortality, rather than any real reality that the entire planet will come to an end in fire and brimstone.....

some chaos, some up and down, but once it really gets messy new things will come through and it will be surprising to those looking back how easily oil was finally replaced when it came to the crunch.

how easily was the type writer, horse and cart, oil lamp, steam engine etc etc etc replaced ?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('pstarr', 'H')ow can we replace petroleum when alternatives are always more expensive?
We can understand that alternatives aren't always more expensive. If, as you stated, alternatives are always more expensive, then we wouldn't have dropped oil fired electricity production to next to nothing and have half of all new installed generating capacity be an alternative, wind.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Ludi', 'I')t seems to me though, if the electric car really had "popular demand" of the kind you imply, we would see many more homemade conversions and more shops set up for doing electric conversions. But the electric car subset of the car hobby seems very small, compared to other subsets such as restoring vintage cars.
In all fairness, restoring vintage cars has been around for a half century or so longer than EV conversions, and up until recently, EV conversions haven't been financially viable, so that isn't a fair comparison. In terms of activity, I know of at least one vendor in Seattle w/ ~100 50 mile battery packs on order from China, but who knows how many conversions we're looking at in the country.
