$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Cog', 'W')hy does power-down have to be voluntary? Can't circumstances change in such a way, that we are forced by events to forever change the way we operate our life? Isn't that what Peak Oil is going to do to us?
You answered the question yourself. If a circumstance happens to you, ie, you lose your legs, and you're forced by that event to forever change the way you operate your life, whereas you will consume less shoes, how fulfilled will you feel? Actually, I picture you getting a scooter, a modified car, "bionic" legs, and doing more and going to more places than you had envisioned to prove you're not a freak. At the end, your forced powerdown will consume more resources than otherwise, despite the life-altering event.
I hope such a tragedy never happens to you, but it helps illustrate that involuntary powerdown, ie, losing a job, just plain sucks and is a very short-term fix.
Powerdown is chosing on your own to, ie, never procreate and always walk to every destination you chose. With that, what powerdowns have you started?
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Cog', 'I')sn't that what Peak Oil is going to do to us?
IMO, all PO will really, really do is to tell us the second half is still in the ground.
