Yet one more reason not to buy GM junk: they are being replaced by worse Chinese junk.

GM hit a dollar a share moments ago...looks like resistance at $1.00 though?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('cbxer55', 'A')ccording to this article, even Ford, who did not take any goobernmint money, is not going to make it for much longer.

Kiss the American car industry, and all of its union employees, goodbye!

1000 GM dealerships forced out May 15: Executives dump shares: Restructuring may fail

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '[')b]A quick look at Ford's Annual Report shows Ford has $22 billion in cash and cash equivalents, $154 billion in long term debt, and net tangible assets of negative $18.9 billion. $1.4 billion is a drop of liquidity in an ocean of problems. Expect this to be the first of many offerings.

This isn't really news to anyone.

I'm just surprised that the top execs own ANY of the company at this point. I don't understand why they didn't sell out once the company entered its death spiral in 2004-2005.

Why would you hang on to shares in a worthless company?

The true value of General Motors was roughly negative $141 a share at the end of 2008. Mind you, they've lost a lot of money since then and their assets (factories, patents, surplus steel) have likely depreciated.

http://www.google.com/finance?fstype=ii&q=NYSE:GM

The net value of the company at the end of 2008 was negative 86 billion freaking dollars.

I don't care how many Volts they sell. You just can't fill a hole that deep. And they have to do more than fill it. If the company had a net value of zero, the shares would still be worthless. They have to earn 86 billion and then some.

I'm shorting the "Down" Jones right now.
GM is one of the 30 companies listed in the index.
I wonder if it will get taken off the list to help *sex the numbers up* like what happened last year when AIG was taken off the list and replaced with Kraft.

Dann straight. Satan will be contacting the electric company to install air conditioning before I'll buy a Government Motors vehicle.

So this is why the US taxpayer is saving GM? So they can make cars in China and sell them here?

Is it just me, or have we really been sold out to the Chinese lock, stock, and barrel?

After all those years of abuse in the 19th Century, I imagine revenge shall be sweet for the Chinese.

Exactly! I've been expecting Chinese made cars to arrive for 10 years. In fact, what's been the hang up, anyhow?

I would have to dig it up, but I remember an article stating that Chinese car manufacturers have been unable to meet the strict US safety requirements. Not surprising from a country that paints their toys with lead paint. The only way you will see a Chinese car in my driveway is if the Chinese invade the United States, kill me and a chinaman moves into my house. It is bad enough that the rotors I bought from Auto Zone for my Mustang were made in China.

Now that US automakers aren't as influential in forcing the strict safety requirements, maybe we'll see more and more very small high mileage cars in the USA much like in the rest of the world. :)

Is that picture of yours an '82 Mercury LN7 by any chance?
