Caucasians (thanks Eastbay for the spelling tip) evolved low pigmentation in northern latitudes because they needed to maximize the ability to absorb vitamin D. As global warming turns the northern latitudes warmer and sunnier who knows, maybe natural selection will weed them out.
That together with all the mongrels we are breeding with these interracial marriages should dilute these pure breds.
Do you guys understand the concept of hybrid vigor (Heterosis) . That the offspring of genetically difference individuals within the same and closely related species (botany) often show characteristics of unusual vigor due to the wider spectrum of genes they inherit from each parent together with some inexplicable resilience that seems to happen the greater the divergence of genes that are inherited from each parent.......

Read my post again. I said a lifeboat I would be a mamber of would not JUST have a bunch of whining causaisions and would have people of color. Now you tell me what is racist about such a diverse group of people? . I didn't say wouldn't have caucasions. I said wouldn't have JUST caucasions. And if are looking at the demographics here on the USA of the past 50 years of the race with the most self entitlement than this is just plain and simple white people. On the other hand because I have spent so much time in developing countries when I come back to the USA I do see that self entitlement knows no boundaries and is prevalent in this country regardless of race, religion or creed. A white Bosnian farmer probably has less of a sense of self entitlement than the average African American citizen.
In your concern about racism if we made a poll here on Peakoil.com and asked members what race they belonged to how many of these whining idealistic doomsday, adolescent, frightened posters do you think would be people of color??

You interestingly selected only Whites as (fill in derogatory descriptors). Why not suggest you wouldn't want to be in a lifeboat with lazy Blacks, or lazy Jews, or lazy Mexicans, in each race we find plenty of of lazy people. If you had balanced it by stating you wouldn't want to be in a lifeboat with anyone regardless of race if they're lazy.... etc..., then it would have been non-racist.
Why select out only lazy Whites? This makes no sense and is patently racist. But it's cool ... we all have some racism in us. Anyone stating otherwise

I agree. Ultimately the transition toward a sustainable society will encompass all races and nationalities. The big challenge for caucasians will be that by and large that they have the farthest to fall in terms of adjusting to a smaller energy footprint. Community is also generally speaking more of a challenge for caucasians. I lived 10 years in Europe, 20 years in the US and 20 years in Mexico, Philippines, Thailand and other developing countries. I speak from my own personal experience in terms of what I observed regarding community cohesiveness of different cultures races I have lived in. Caucasians will also have the challenge to adjust to sharing power and resources with other groups. This will prove hard if we look at their track record for example of when they first arrived in North America or Australia or South America and of course if we look at the consumption habits of Europe and North America during the past 100 years.
Now granted part of our problem here is nationalism. Our european brothers could argue that it is not white people but Americans who are the problem in terms of self entitlement and individualism.
And then again one can say it is socio-economic. It was just the affluence. If Chinese acheive economic prosperity in this century can we expect an improvement or will their sustainability ethics looking at their track record plunge us more quickly into overshoot.
So we have race, socio-economic factors, nationalism... All at work here.
Of course in the end we all end up where we feel most adaptive in terms of the groups we associate with. I know what that means for me. It is different for everyone.
I actually agree with you Eastbay that we have to make efforts to find our commonality and not reinforce our differences.
When you delve into these complications then you can't help but think about how easy it was when we lived in small tribes. I think this huge mixing of races and cultures is part of our solution however.
Even though they will persist no one religion or race or nation can really quite take seriously their believe in their arrogance and superiority when our diverse global civilization with all its diversity is staring us in the face every day.
On a final note caucasians will have to take a deep breath and accept their karma as a collective race in terms of how they will adjust in the next 100 years as they become an increasing minority vs. the hegemony they enjoyed during the past 100 years.
