The CIA told Khalid Sheik Muhammad that they wouldn't kill him when they subjected him to water torture.

CIA did not threaten Khalid S. Muhammad with death

He would've probably figured that out for himself anyway after the first hundred waterboardings or so.

Former CIA director Porter Goss says Democrats in DC are suffering from an "epidemic of amnesia" because none of them can remember any of the briefings and oversight meetings they had with the CIA about interrogations.

Dems have epidemic of amnesia about OKing water torture

Goss beileves the Dems are sacrificing CIA secrets and risking US national security by selectively leaking 4 memos for partisan reasons

I was dismayed to see Rove and Cheney on Fox trolling for
a pissing match.

They caught themselves a whopper.

We all get to lose while the whole sordid thing makes money
for lawyers, names for litigators, and money for the media
moguls.

Conservatives are going to be further wounded by the massive
pressure to defend a group of people who have already fed
them nonsense and sold them down the road.

I think that's Obama's plan......but its possible it will backfire on Obama if it becomes clear he lied to the American people when he said that the interrogations didn't provide useful intelligence. The only way to get to the bottom of this, IMHO, is to hope that Cheney is able to pressure Obama to be more transparent and get BO to release the documents that show whether or not the interrogations worked.

Gosh....now it turns out the CIA DID NOT waterboard KSM 183 time in one month----the NY TIMES lied about it (no surprise there).

KSM was actually waterboarded 5 times in one month. The other 178 times he had water poured on his head.

KSM only waterboarded 5 times

First it was revealed that Obama lied to the AMerican people when he said the interrogations didn't work. Now it turns out the MSM reports on the torture were also lies. Its all just another reason for Obama to take Dick Cheney's advice to be transparent and release more documents so the actual facts can come out.

I was just listening to President for life Obama telling how horrific waterboarding is and how he will not allow it.

Just think about partial birth abortion. Metal rod put in brain of baby and brains sucked out. He has no problems with

this procedure. This why the USA is going down. Pure evil !

If water torture is so horrible why isn't it against the law? Why doesn't the Congress pass a law to make it illegal?

The Congress passed a law making waterboarding a crime a few years ago, but evil George Bush vetoed it.

Its curious that the Congress and Obama won't pass a law now that will outlaw waterboarding.

Waterboard Contractors Paid $1000 Per Day

Unread postby mattduke » Thu 30 Apr 2009, 23:02:04

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'F')ormer U.S. officials say the two men were essentially the architects of the CIA's 10-step interrogation plan that culminated in waterboarding.
Associates say the two made good money doing it, boasting of being paid a $1,000 a day by the CIA to oversee the use of the techniques on top al Qaeda suspects at CIA secret sites.

I need 1000 dollars to make you holler, I get paid to do the wild thing.

Hm.. I bet this will please the telecoms just fine. When we get to max capacity, they'll start charging extra for "express" networks.

Nonsense. Computers and net connections will only get better and faster as time passes. :)

I think condoning methods that fall out of line with the Geneva
convention to the point where you work hard to keep them
secret is a huge mistake. There is always abuse and
maltreatment in war conditions and it is proportional
to how high up the chain of command it runs as to how
wide the base of the abuse pyramid is allowed to grow.
Condoning such unprofessional conduct at the top
guarantees the flourishing at lower levels.

Every country in the world "condones methods that fall out of line with the Geneva Conventions." For instance, it is against the Geneva Convention to spy on other countries. The Geneva Convention only covers actions against other countries during expressly declared wars and only by unformed combatants.

Lets not be childish and imagine that the Geneva Conventions govern every activity by the US or other countries. The Geneva Conventions cover DECLARED WARS and LEGAL COMBATANTS ONLY. Its ridiculous to imagine that any country in the world has abandoned its secret spy agencies because of the Geneva Conventions.

Let's not be naive and believe we can avoid having standards
of behavior that keep long term discipline and manageable
behavior in our armed forces and civilian agencies.
We will always be able to find people and situations that
are barbaric and outside of any and all boundaries of
behavior we have adopted for pragmatic and many other
reasons. The onus is for defeating them, not to become like
them and then to see if it is possible to snap back towards
a professional military or intelligence agency before
morphing into the next "ghoul mode" as driven externally.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('AgentR', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('mattduke', 'S')hould CIA employees that torture people like this be released back into our society?

I don't see why not. We're as complicit as they. Just because time has taken the edge from our lust for blood and revenge doesn't imply that we can turn around and play the part of the offended, just and honorable, person.

Maybe you personally would like to stake a claim to not being amongst those that lusted for blood and revenge; but that makes you unrepresentative of society as a whole. Society wanted them nuked into the stone age; cooler heads prevailed and so we shot and bombed a few hundred thousand and tortured a few thousand others.

Now we're pulling back our rage and finding ourselves a little
embarrassed.

The most cogent comment on this subject so far. It's painful and scary to look inside our souls personally and as a nation. Many are not up to the task, others just look the other way...
