')I think, although I'm not sure, that Family Crests were generally a European thing, most notably English. I'm sure other cultures had their markings and symbols, but in terms of a Coat of Arms or Family Crest, I think thats mainly specific to the English.

is a coat of arms for my surname, O'Neill. It contains, among other things, a bloody hand. I'm descended from impulsive people.

I have other ancestors whose name was Bacon. I was amused to find out that the Bacon family motto is, "Mediocrity is safe." How these conservative English folk managed to hook up with those impetuous O'Neills and
Shaheens/Markoses I'll never know.
On second thought, I could ask my grandmother and parents.
