$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '<')/div>Those large cranes and excavators, not to mention those tunnel boring machines already run on Electricity, via cable connection,$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '<')/div>

I am sorry but tunnel-boring / mine boring / deep sea vertical mineshaft boring etc etc are totally impractical with a huge electrical connector and electrical cable trailing behind.

and as already stated, the high voltage grid cannot cover the earth in anything like the density that we would need to power the process's that need powering.

Treez,

welcome! As you can see, oil may be getting scarce but opinions are always in abundant supply. Too bad you can't run a generator on opinions. I'm a doomer, so I lean toward the 'nothing can or will replace oil and we are totally screwed' camp. Not mentioned much but I am sure somebody here will direct me to the post that does is the amount of oil that goes into the actual construction of windmills, solar panels, batteries and nuclear powerplants. Electricity will never be able to provide the hardware required in our renewables. Electricity cannot be molded into battery casings, it can't coat the wires in insulation, it will never be paint, or carbon fiber or fertilizer or pesticide or, well, you name the non-energy uses for oil and electricity can't become them. At least half my house is a derivative of oil. Most of my computer I am talking to you with came from oil. As somebody else here said, take oil out of the equation and we are back to the iron age, if we're lucky.

Correct me if I misunderstand but it appears that you are saying reallity doesn't matter because you don't beleive in it?
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Alfred Tennyson', 'W')e are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

Treez, you've clearly done your homework, but all this has been listed on this site literally thousands of times (of course it's never enough to break through some peoples skulls who think the world can never change).

I'm of the opinion that the major factor will be who gets access to the remaining oil and what happens during that process. All the 'alternatives' rubbish flying around may help an individual if they manage to get their hands on a solar panel or wind turbine, but it's a complete red herring as far as industrial civilization as a whole is concerned.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('treez', 'A')lso, the energy that’s needed to manufacture a battery and keep charging it back up as it discharges is enormous….something like 300 times the energy that the battery ever gives to us in its lifetime doing useful work.
I doubt that, unless of course you can point out where this guy went wrong. According to that, modern batteries can store about ten times more energy than is required for their materials recovery and manufacturing.
