Treez,
welcome! As you can see, oil may be getting scarce but opinions are always in abundant supply. Too bad you can't run a generator on opinions. I'm a doomer, so I lean toward the 'nothing can or will replace oil and we are totally screwed' camp. Not mentioned much but I am sure somebody here will direct me to the post that does is the amount of oil that goes into the actual construction of windmills, solar panels, batteries and nuclear powerplants. Electricity will never be able to provide the hardware required in our renewables. Electricity cannot be molded into battery casings, it can't coat the wires in insulation, it will never be paint, or carbon fiber or fertilizer or pesticide or, well, you name the non-energy uses for oil and electricity can't become them. At least half my house is a derivative of oil. Most of my computer I am talking to you with came from oil. As somebody else here said, take oil out of the equation and we are back to the iron age, if we're lucky.
