$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('nobodypanic', 'w')e need a thread on how to become a pirate. :-D

It's not that hard...

1) Find a ship. Make sure it's fast. Check the classified ads. Some good ones can be had for about the price of a new car. Buying is good, but don't overlook an opportunity. Stealing one, or better yet, devising an insurance scam with the owner could lower the entrance cost.

2) Get a crew. Family, neighbors, unemployed fishermen all make good choices. That stupid cousin that once turned you in for smoking pot is probably not a good choice for first mate, though. Use some common sense.

3) Get some weapons. RPG-7's and AK-47's are the popular choices for obvious reasons, but don't limit yourself. In a pinch, a good .308 and some revolvers will do.

4) Bribe some coast guard officials. I Can't stress this one enough. Nothing ruins a pirate's day quite like having their hard-stolen booty stolen by the coast guard.

5) Stay within your weight class. Don't start out by trying to take down a shipment of oil or Russian tanks. Remember, this is a new business venture, you should start small and work your way up.

6) Repeat business is key. If you over-harvest, or frequently kill your captured crews, the shipping companies might reroute, or stop shipping altogether. Don't get greedy.

7) SPREAD THE WEALTH. Remember that your community is your camoflauge. Treat them well, and they will do the same.

Edit: Wow, I'm bored!

"Take too much of the passing trade and the trade stops passing!"

When you look at Somalia as a strategicly located port for pirates it is remarkably situated geographicly; being a failed state sets the backdrop perfectly.

I would hazard a guess that at the point of states in strategic positions failure; more Somalia type situations will emerge virtually overnight.

Mary Ann wins that debate every time, she was cute, down to Earth in personality, and always there with a helping hand when needed. Ginger on the other hand was stuck on herself and willing at every turn to use her 'feminine wiles' to get the guys to lighten her share of the load.

Three cheers for Obama and the US Navy Seals, still dominant and badass as sever :-D Let this be a lesson to those who think they us military is "weak"

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'W')ASHINGTON (AP) - Administration officials say President Barack Obama approved the military operation that rescued a U.S. captain held hostage by Somali pirates. The officials say Obama ordered the Defense Department to use military resources to rescue Richard Phillips from a lifeboat off the Somali coast.
The officials discussed this information on the condition of anonymity because they were not yet authorized to disclose the president's decision-making process. Obama praised the captain for his bravery and courage. The president also said the United States needs help from other countries to deal with the threat of piracy and to hold pirates accountable.

Finally someone did something correctly in that administration. It's actually the pilot who performed by jumping out a second time freeing up the BG targets.

Mission Accomplished!

If they can defeat the Somali pirates, then Afghanistan should be a walk in the park.

Notice they didn't send the Rangers this time.

Aside from any question of who were the bad guys and who were the good guys, Captain Richard Phillips is and will be a genuine folk hero, deserving of the highest honor. He is a great man.

Obama apparently TWICE authorized the use of force ....the use of force is standard operating procedure under the rules of engagement for the Navy when US civilians are in imminent danger. However, the Maersk Captain was not rescued during a pre-planned operation. It was the Captain of the USS Bainbridge who actually made the call on when to use force and effect the rescue, based on circumstances at the scene:

The pirates were pointing AK-47s at Capt. Richard Phillips and he was in "imminent danger" of being killed when the commander of the nearby USS Bainbridge made the split-second decision to order his men to shoot, Vice Adm. Bill Gortney said.

Hip Hip Hooray for the Captain of the USS Brainbridge!

Easy there! Yes, good job, but remember, no politician does nothing just from good heart. Obama needed for something, anything, to show for during his first 100 days. Obama also needed the support of the military, which is most Republican.

Of course obama made the call...the mission was a success.

Had that brave captain been killed, obama would have had nothing to do with it.

Kinda reminds me of those pesky rigged voting machines every time a republican wins an election :)

8) Three simultaneous head shots from a moving ship to a bobbing small boat. Technically the equivalent of landing a dead engine airliner in the Hudson without flipping it. A piece of professional work which will now be legendary.
