$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'N')PR link. They mentioned something about border patrols on CNN this morning as well, but I only caught the last 15 seconds or so of the item, so I don't know the context.
There has been calls from the right for the US Army on the border for a long time. Liberals balked and moderates were never keen on it -- it's expensive, we need troops elsewhere, and no we really don't want to look like East Germany or some such.
These previous calls for troops have been about the illegal immigration problem (and the drug smuggling). So we finally did get s a few national guard on the border, but they have such limited rules of engagement (and face it, they're not the Army) that they actually retreated when they came under fire.
However, this new problem with the drug lords is a whole other kind of issue than the illegal immigration. Liberals really need to back this, this is about the drug lords now, and we *do not* want the barbarism going on in Mexico to spread to Texas.
So we really do need the Army on that border. This is a national security issue now, it's not about immigration anymore.
