Cole Porter wrote a great song "You're the Tops"

In my opinion the Jews are the "Top". They're statistically smarter, they invent and innovate more per capita than any other group. Look at the Nobel prizes Jews have won, all out of proportion with any other racial group. Their culture breeds excellence; hard work, emphasis on education and study are what make them great. That's why they achieve as much as they do, no matter what country they live in. We're all a bunch of knuckle draggers compared to the best of the Jews.

Also Vision, the reason the Jews became such rich bankers is because Christian custom and law throughout the Middle Ages and even into the Renaissance, forbid Christians from being money handlers, so the Jews became our bankers, gold and silver smiths.

So much of the hatred of the Jews is pure envy and it is evil.

And I say this as a Roman Catholic Austrian/Pole who in a not too distant past may have sent my Jewish neighbors to the death camps. The Jews that came out of that horrific experience were resolved to have a homeland where "Never Again" would they be subject to the hatred and power of the people in their adopted lands.
Now they have their own homeland and they will keep it or like Samson they will take out themselves with dignity and kill all their surrounding enemies.
"Modern Agriculture is the use of land to convert petroleum into food."
-- Albert Bartlett

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'A')lso Vision, the reason the Jews became such rich bankers is because Christian custom and law throughout the Middle Ages and even into the Renaissance, forbid Christians from being money handlers, so the Jews became our bankers, gold and silver smiths.

Are you sure........ :P

KNIGHTS TEMPLAR
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '*')The Knights Templar were organized as a military priesthood in the Catholic church.
*In 1156, under the administration of Bertrand de Blanchfort, the Knights imported to the area of Rennes le Chateau, a contingent of German speaking miners. Their alleged task was to work the gold mines on the slopes of the mountains of Blanchfort, gold mines that had been utterly exhausted by the Romans nearly a thousand years before. But the truth, which was revealed later, was that they were not mining. Instead, they were “smelting, perhaps melting something down, constructing something out of metal, perhaps even excavating a subterranean crypt of some sort and making a species of repository”. (bk-1,93)

*Almost immediately afterwards, the Templars created and established the institution of modern banking. By lending large sums to destitude Monarchs, they became the bankers for every throne in Europe. With their network of preceptories throughout Europe and the Middle East, they also organized at moderate interest rates, the safe and efficient transfer of money for merchant traders. Money deposited in one city, for example, could be claimed and withdrawn in another by means of a promissory note inscribed in intricate codes. The Templars thus became the primary money changers of the age, and the Paris preceptory became the center of European finance. It is even probable that the “check” as we know and use it today was invented by the order. (bk-1,71)

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Pops', 'S')o the entire world is at the mercy of 100-some warheads? No wonder Iran wants some.

I am not sure what you are saying but if it is that the world is defferential to Israel due to its nuclear arsenal then Id argue against that. I think Israel has had a sort of special status within many in the west since its inception. The reasons are varying but include guilt at the holocaust and millenia of persecution, the (racist to be fair) perception of Israelis as 'us' (of European origin) vs the arabic 'other', its democratic nature and for religious reasons. Pakistan and India have nuclear arsenals but dont get the same kind of treatment. If thats not what you meant can you clarify for me?
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('DomusAlbion', 'W')hich is why Iran should be prevented from having them, along with N Korea and all other small despotic, totalitarian regimes. Nukes are about power and if someone is to wield power it should be us and our friends.
Israel is not your friend. It is an ally. Charles de Gaul summed it up when he said 'in international relations their are no frineds, only allies'. Israel is an enormous impediment to US interests in the region.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Pops', '
')And if they are such a loose cannon, what makes them different than any other unstable nation with WMD?

I am being picky here but I really dislike the term "WMD", its so vague and open to misrepresentation. I prefer the term CNB,chemical, nuclear, biological.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('DomusAlbion', 'N')ote that one sixth of its citizens (within the borders of Israel) are Arabs, mostly Muslims, who vote, are in the legislature and serve in its armed forces.
Jewish Israelis are the only ones who have to do military service. And other than them only Druize are really accepted into the Israeli army. In terms of arab, well there is a very significant number of arab Jews in Israel. Most of whom have been displaced from there homelands post 1948

this is naive in the extreme.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('DomusAlbion', 'I')n spite of the tremendous external pressure Israel has had to endure since its recent incarnation in 1948 it as remained a Western liberal democracy; and an open pluralistic society. Note that one sixth of its citizens (within the borders of Israel) are Arabs, mostly Muslims, who vote, are in the legislature and serve in its armed forces.
Israel has had nuclear devices for some time and has never used them. The bombs remain the last option.

What happened to the naval blockade plan that Israel suggested? I thought that'd be the best way (if diplomacy fails) to solve this. Or am i wrong?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Pops', 'I') hate to say this but the reason for the popularity of Gone Away (or whatever those movies and books are called) is the same reason politicians coddle Israel - a large portion of the voting public believe in the Book of Revelations.

Sorry, but that is what I believe.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Pops', 'S')o the entire world is at the mercy of 100-some warheads?.

Not so much the weapons themselves; no one cares if France has 105 warheads, or whatever; because no realistic situation exists in which France would be well served or at least suffer no harm, by using them.

The same is NOT true of Israel.

If Israel's survival is compromised, which could happen in any number of reasonable ways, they suffer no harm by retaliating with a full strike. None what so ever. The reasoning is simple, we're all gonna die at the hands of these XYZs regardless; so lets destroy everything the XYZ's ever had any interest in.

In addition, a good argument can be made that the infrastructure damage associated with such a strike would so greatly harm the staying power of any force invading Israel, that survival chances for individual Jews and families is enhanced by executing a full strike.

That is why it is so different for states like Israel, Iran, and Pakistan to have nuclear weapons. Because realistic situations exist where USING them makes perfect sense.

Latest news on Mr. Freeman, we'll see what happens.

toast

Dem Congressional Leaders Telling White House They’re Concerned About Freeman

Greg Sargent – Who Runs Gov March 6, 2009

It looks like some members of the Dem Congressional leadership may be on the verge of coming out and taking public whacks at Chas Freeman, the Obama administration’s pick for the key post of National Intelligence Council chief who is taking fire from the pro-Israel lobby and neocons over his foreign ties and criticism of Israel.

The latest: A senior Democratic aide tells me that the latest news about Freeman is being discussed at the highest ranks of Congress, and he says that Democratic leaders in both the House and Senate have privately expressed concerns to Obama administration officials about him.

This has the potential to become a major problem. The White House hasn’t really publicly defended Freeman, and the question of whether the White House will stick by him is emerging as a key test of whether the Obama administration will buck the pro-Israel lobby and the neocons who are turning up the heat on him.

A victory for the blogosphere

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'P')eople everywhere who were feeling queasy over the nomination of "Chas" Freeman for chairman of the National Intelligence Council can breathe a sigh of relief. It has just been announced that the nomination has been withdrawn.

Everything about Freeman -- from his emphasis on foreign policy "realism" (read his writing and figure out what that means in policy circles), to his cuddly relationship with Saudi Arabia, to the self-congratulatory tone of his pontifications -- gave me the creeps. A former American ambassador to Saudi Arabia, he later accepted Saudi funding to run a "think tank" that regularly issued Walt-Mearsheimer-esque (i.e. nonsensical and paranoid) analyses about the Mideast. And this was the guy who would have been in charge of of distilling intelligence information for the president.

I don't recall mentioning whether they gave x about anyone. Doesn't change the end analysis for the countries I listed in the slightest.

The simple reality for those of you who would like to see Israel driven into the sea, that she will lay waste to anything and everything of value in the region before dieing; and there is absolutely nothing you can do to change that reality.

Oh, I'm sure short-mans-complex Israel would love to bomb the loving-f&ck out of everyone, including us. Whether they'll do it or not?? It seems that TPTB are saving this little bit of fire from above for a special momemt yet to be announced (as the threat has been rumored for years now). But, if and when it really starts, it'll definitely signal the start of some huge, (read: desperate) power grabbing.

I don't like Israel OR Iran. I hate theocracies but Israel can't be trusted either. I don't think Israel's attack against US naval vessel USS Liberty was an accident.

They are good at looking after #1 and would throw us under the bus in a minute if it served their needs.

Maybe Iran builds a few nukes and then Israel (and by fallout the Palestinians too) and Iran all glow radioactive and die after they nuke each other.

Maybe when the Middle East runs out of oil the peoples of the Middle East will abandon their business suits and college degrees and go back to being throat-slitting savages. Oh that's right, they still are!
An ideology is by definition not a search for TRUTH-but a search for PROOF that its point of view is right

there's a lot of showmanship going on (which is not to say that there won't be a war some day).

iran already has nuclear weapons, by the way, and it has the means to deliver them to israel. on the other hand, nuclear weaponry was rendered obsolete decades ago.
