$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('bruin', 'G')as could go to $10 gallon and there will be no change in professional sports. Fuel costs are the least of their concerns. They'll get around just fine with expensive fuel.
ok, so petrol is $10 a gallon, or about 4 times today's price.
So we are talking crude oil priced at about $200-$250 a barrel.
when we get to that level, i'd suggest the pro sports people are out of business for these reasons:
there will be roaring inflation and rocketing unemployment. joe public will be cutting back on non-essential spending. he may stop going to see the games live because the tickets are expensive. he may cut his cable and/or pay-per-view tv viewing because he can't afford it.
once a significant percentage of fans fall into this category, where does the money for pro sports come from?
sponsorship and free-to-air tv advertising?
maybe, but if the economy is taking a massive dive, this will dry up a lot too.
so yes, with the money these organisations have now, extra fuel costs mean almost nothing in direct terms, but indirectly it will strangle their ultimate source of income - ordinary fans.
