And go into massive debt, screwing up your credit & risking seizure of your stuff to get crap like gold, pails of rice, a bunker?

I was stupid enough to buy silver but fortunately that was all. Hopefully the price will at least go back up to $17 or $18 an ounce so I can sell and cut my losses.

Depends on the reason you decide to invest in something like silver or gold. I don't plan on dumping mine until there's a reason to do so. What I mean is, if it comes to a point where I need to use silver to barter directly with, turn it in for whatever new currency that is planned to replace the dollar at a better rate of exchange, etc. Or if in 20 years nothing happens, it will surely still be a low rate investment, not a loss.

I had tinkered with the idea of maxing out a credit card to buy a chunk, that brainstorm lasted all of 3 minutes. :)

I liked to read his reactionary stuff, it was entertaining. I did most everything he did except buy/build/live in a bunker. I think the bunker was a conjured myth anyway that developed a life of its own. Shoot, I went to far as to make sure that I can make my own beer for some time to come.

There are people on the Ticker Forum (stock traders) who are full-on prepping now.

There is nothing wrong with prepping. If you don't have guns, pails of rice, a garden and whatnot, you may well be caught by surprise and screwed at some point in the next few years. Say hello to everyone in the FEMA camp for me! :P

Roccman still posts in other forums, just not here.

Was his idea to max out on credit cards good? Too early to tell. From what I see in bankruptcy court, may have been a good idea, especially if all the stuff you bought with it is buried underground where no one can find it.

I've heard that a couple of times now, that the brokers are going for broke on their preps.

What's up with that? Do they know something we don't? Do they know something we should?

Of course, I guess if they were really any good they would have cashed out a year or so ago.

How much silver and what type? Silver American Eagles? $15 an ounce and you have a deal. :)

These are smart folks. You can make money in any market. Go check out the "FedUpUSA" forum on tickerforum.org.

They basically just think that we are going to implode if the government and Fed keep making stupid decisions.

Narz, do not! sell your silver, Unless it is bars, If it is coins,, keep them. Like J-Rod said, I'm not buying my silver for profit, they are for security. Worst case is my kids get to fight over my few hundred coins when I'm dead. But I have a bad feeling I might actually get to use them.

Silver is for trading, Gold is to hold some wealth. (wisdom from sittinguy)

Roccman was the only person I EVER saw, recommend running up debt, He drove me NuTs. One of his posts made me post something one day along the lines of...

Don't be mad when you are serving time in debters prison picking up trash on the side of the road, And I drive buy and hit you in the head with a chicken nugget

Come on guys, I hate to move posts.

Post what you do in PFTF, post what you think somewhere else.

If it's gonna get as bad as the doomyist doomers think it is who's gonna give a damn about silver or gold? In a post-apocalyptic world why would anyone in their right mind trade a horse or food or a gun for a worthless hunk of round metal? Never did get an answer out of Roccman or that one.

BTW, sorry for posting in the wrong thread Pops, honest mistake, I figured it'd go in "PFTF" since it's a discussion about future events/projects/plans.

Right now the doomiest doomer I see blogging is Karl Denninger. 8O If that guy is right then the entire modern debt financing system is a Dead Man Walking within months of crashing and burning up to the sky and down to the ground. Governments about to implode, Mad Max, the whole nine yards by the end of this year. Even Jay Hanson gives us a few more decades before lights out. The only thing I do know is that things are still getting worse. Also his predictions for 2008 were almost all correct.

If that is a main reason you didnt max credit when you could its pretty silly. Its much more likely for you to lose your job and collect trash on the roadsides, or pay 70% tax on your current job to bailout every bank, credit card company, automaker, porn-producer, ets, while Roccman will scratch his ass with a krugerrand while watching his favorite porn on a big screen HDTV. A smart person [s]can[/s] could retire by the time of his first bunkruptcy, let alone second or third.

Within 30 days I'll be out of the city and back on the farm.

Every free penny is going to prepping. Within a year I hope to say, and believe that I will be able to, I dont give a flying rats ass what happens.

Until then this leaky boat has to stay afloat.

Going to. I want to try a whole photo documentary type thing of it all for others to use but my situation really is so unique I dont know if it would be a repeatable event. Perhaps.

Denniger's or Roccman's?
Denninger's. He re-posted them at his market ticker forum. Just google Denninger if you want to read his thoughts about our situation. Roccman would probably agree with what Karl says, though, as his rhetoric is very doomer. Right up Rocc's alley.
