So the people still died then. Were they all armed and defending their neighborhoods or just plain-ol' unarmed civilians?

I hate to rag on the Israelis solely but they are the only ones doing wholesale cold-blooded killing these days. I haven't seen an Arab kid with an explosives vest being sent into an Israeli cafe for at least a year now. What happened to the kid-bombs? We need some balance here!

UN STARVES GAZANS!!!

Unread postby The_Virginian » Fri 06 Feb 2009, 11:52:07

We cant let Israel have all the fun, can we?

UN DENIES CRITICAL AID

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) on Friday said it is suspending humanitarian aid in Gaza until further notice, after Hamas seized control of its warehouses and stole 200 tons of food and supplies.

The agency said it made the decision after Hamas personnel seized an aid shipment on Thursday. Earlier this week, Hamas police took thousands of blankets and food parcels meant for needy residents.

UNRWA said the suspension would remain in effect until the aid is returned and the agency receives credible assurances from the Hamas government that such thefts will end. There was no immediate reaction from Hamas.

"There is enough aid for days, not weeks," he said. Complicating the situation, he said the agency has not been able to import plastic bags used for food distribution, and that existing supplies will run out early next week.

Some 80 percent of Gaza's 1.4 million people rely on the UN agency for food and other support, and UN officials say the need for aid has increased since Israel ended a military offensive in Gaza last month.

A UN spokesman on Wednesday said Hamas police in Gaza broke into a warehouse full of UN humanitarian supplies and seized thousands of blankets and food packages, creating a rare public clash between the international agency that feeds much of the territory and the militant group that rules it.

I hate to say it but we cant keep bending over to terrorist organizations like hamas. Perhaps the gazan people will now realise that hamas should not be representing them.

If we give aid (and we should) it should not be going to hamas. If they steal it, then they must answer to gazans.

How dare the UN entity stop food deliveries to Gaza because Hamas steals the food.

Hamas is too clever for the UN entity.

Hamas will kidnap UN entity workers, shoot them from ambush, and send suicide bombers and fire rockets at the UN entity to force it to send more food to Gaza so Hamas can steal it.

Have no fear. There isn't a single event in the middle east that can't be blamed on Israel directly or indirectly.

Do you happen to know why Hamas was able to become democratically elected?

The PLO (well actualy Fatah) were widely seen as being corrupt and only interested in skimming of the top and after the death of Arrafat they were rudderless and guiless. Hamas were the angry young kids on the block (politicaly speaking) who had been very active in charity work and were seen as being more deteremined towards the goal of liberation than PLO\Fatah.

However a number of credible observers are suggesting that support for Hamas is now 'fluid'. Recent rallies have been less well attended or even sparsely attended and the bulk of the Arab political world is throwing its weight behind the Fatah government in Ramallah rather than the Hamas one in Gaza. This together with growing anger at what some (and I emphisising some) see as Hamas' pointless provocation is supposed to be draining support for Hamas.

But all of that comes with the huge caveat that it took several years for the full picture to emerge on what happened inside Falluja politicaly during the two US attacks... but having said that Gaza is not Falluja it is more open and has more contacts with the outside world.

You dont seem to have any strong opinions on the recent war in Sri Lanka that has many tens of thousands of civilians caught in the fighting or the resumption of hostilities in Northern DRC.

Both have been major headlines over the past few weeks including the capture of the notorious warlord Laurent Nkunda just two weeks ago.

One would question just why you seem so interested in Palastinians but so little concerned by your fellow humans in other parts of the world.

Incidently the UN cut its Aid to Zimbabwe just a few weeks ago. Down to 600 kcal per person. Your anger does seem rather...... well how would I put it...... focused....

Exactly. It's not like Hamas is stealing this stuff for themselves. They are most likely stealing it because the UN is inept largely. Hamas can more effectively hand stuff out and make sure that people get the aid they need (or at least can get).

People are making it out like Hamas is stealing this stuff to feed the army - which, btw, is one wing of the movement.

The good news:
Israel reopens flag and lighter fluid trade with Gaza. Gazans celebrate in streets!

I dont trust Hamas any further than I trust the Knessit or any other group in that region.

They siezed something that did not belong to them and did so knowing it would be internationaly provocative. They seem more interested in their status than maximising the aid being given to the people under there care.

Of course Hamas stole the food for themselves. Do you you think thieves like Hamas then nicely recuse themselves from the stolen food?

Hamas brought disaster to Gaza. Now Hamas is stealing food from the UN entity so they can pretend that they are bringing relief to Gaza.

If the idiots who run Hamas would put a fraction of the mental effort into building an economy in Gaza that they waste on needless wars and attacks on unarmed UN relief workers, they wouldn't need to steal food.

Ofcourse they are stealing that stuff for themselves. The fact that you're either a) dumb b) biased enough to even suggest that they stole it so that they could distribute it more efficiently (double lolz) just makes me laugh.

and dukey: yes thank you for telling that, im sure nobody here knew that. ;O

So because I state facts about how Hamas came to power, now I'm supporting Hamas? Amazing how you can make that leap.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'O')fcourse they are stealing that stuff for themselves.

Do you have proof that they stole it for themselves? Will you acknowledge the reason why they won the elections was because of their social programs such as feeding the poor and funding schools and hospitals?
