Some shabby armor could be put around it easily I think.

That kind of equipment would tend to attract rather than repel, I'm afraid. Though I suppose luring and destroying might be a good strategy.

Ap for Google phone to help avoid flu zombies

Unread postby Sixstrings » Wed 03 Dec 2008, 20:47:15

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '[')b]The phone that feels the flu before you do

NEW YORK - Did your parents tell you to remember your scarf when you went out, so you wouldn't catch a cold? Today, the advice might be: Remember your cell phone.

A maker of over-the-counter cold and flu remedies released a program this week for the T-Mobile G1, also known as the "Google phone," that warns the user how many people in an area are sneezing and shaking with winter viruses.

The "Zicam Cold & Flu Companion" will say, for instance, that 8 percent to 14 percent of the people in your ZIP code have respiratory illnesses, representing a "Moderate" risk level. To give germophobes and hypochondriacs even more of a thrill, it also says what symptoms are common, like coughing and sore throat.

Users can also ask the application about risk levels in other ZIP codes, so they can steer clear of, for instance, Atlanta, one of the five most infected cities in the nation right now, according to Zicam.

I really don't see the utility in this. A healthy person shouldn't try to outrun flu, unless there's a bird flu or superbug outbreak. In that case you stay in your house. Otherwise, are you really going to drive two hours just to shop somewhere with less flu?

Silly biofuel13. It wasn't us; it was the TSP-they hadn't given out enough tickets!

They do that stuff in Austin a lot. All the traffic signs are defaced. The yellow diamond-shaped pedestrian sign often gets a hula hoop or skateboard drawn onto him with a Sharpie marker.

All the stop signs have something written under the word STOP so they say stuff like "STOP GEORGE BUSH!" or "STOP THE NWO". We have a lot of individualists in this town.

Zombies Ahead

Unread postby PeakOiler » Sat 31 Jan 2009, 09:33:22

KXAN Article
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'C')onstruction Signs Warn of Zombies
AUSTIN (KXAN) - Austin drivers making their morning commute were in for a surprise when two road signs on a busy stretch of road were taken over by hackers. The signs near the intersection of Lamar and Martin Luther King boulevards usually warn drivers about upcoming construction, but Monday morning they warned of "zombies ahead."

Hilarious!

There’s a strange irony related to this subject [oil and gas extraction] that the better you do the job at exploiting this oil and gas, the sooner it is gone.

iPhone Zombies

Unread postby ReverseEngineer » Mon 23 Mar 2009, 06:02:36

For about the last year, as the iPhones and Blackberries have become more ubiquitous, I have been watching numerous of my 20-30 something coworkers become absolutely transfixed by these devices. They walk around at the workplace with their device in hand, earphones on and tapping texts as they walk around. They don;t even look up to see where they are going sometimes.

I admit to being somewhat transfixed by my laptop and spending way too much time writing posts for Peak Oil, but I DO walk away from it occassionally, particularly at work. This business with the PDA/Cell Phones though is a whole new ballgame. at the airport particularly on my last few trips, EVERYBODY is staring into a handheld device of some type, everybody has an earpiece of some type in at least one ear.

Its like you can't be detached for a moment form your electronic world. I really think we are creating Zombies this way.
