$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Ferretlover', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('dinopello', ' ') It is cheap though. Suspiciously so... It's hard for me to even watch people eat it.

Is this a Soylent Green reference?

My main problem with fast food is the unhealthy ingredients such as trans fats, msg, and high fructose corn syrup. If only they used healthier ingredients such as real butter, natural spices, and cane sugar, people wouldn't get quite so fat in the USA.

I'd only like to add the following to this thoughtful discussion: If you are constipated or in need of an enema, don't rule out the golden arches as a solution!

Seriously. When I lived in the US and felt the need, I would visit the closest McDonald's to my house, order and eat a BigMac and then drive like hell to my house. Worked wonders everytime for me...

Perhaps we could view the golden arches as providing a much needed public service in this regard.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Ferretlover', 'I') don't know about doing That, chuckmak. There was a docufilm about a guy who did an experiment--he ate only MickyDs for one month, getting a physical at the beginning and the end. He gained loads of weight, his blood pressure shot up, etc; the doctor said he was in danger.
I can't think of the name of it--does anyone remember?

The only thing that guy proved was that you gain weight if you eat more energy than your body requires. Then again, ofcourse eating only mcdonalds is unhealthy, especially if you eat the burgers, fries, sodas and/or shakes.

I must admit it's my only vice (well, almost), eating at mickey's. Only thing i eat are some of the burgers.

Failing Globalization Eats McDonald’s Lunch

Unread postby bratticus » Mon 26 Jan 2009, 12:28:09

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '[')b]McDonald’s Profit Falls as U.S. Dollar Hurts Sales By Courtney Dentch, Bloomberg, 26 Jan 2009:
McDonald’s Corp., the world’s largest restaurant chain, reported that fourth-quarter profit dropped 23 percent as the stronger dollar diminished the benefit of sales growth in international markets. ... skip ...
Five years ago, McDonald’s introduced its dollar menu with the double cheeseburger, apple pie and small French fries. Last month, it replaced the double cheeseburger with the McDouble, a sandwich with two beef patties and only one slice of cheese, rather than two.

You just can't skimp when it comes to your kids. (and then she proceeds to feed them junk food)

Call me crazy, but isn't a "23% fall in profits" a fabulously successful business in the current climate? A 23% fall in profits means you're still turning a sizable profit while an awful lot are losing money.

Indeed. But, the vampire of capital demands more. I could be investing in you, with your little and shrinking profits. Or this nice Madoff guy, who's promising me 8% per annum.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('bratticus', 'A')s people's income shrinks more of them start eating where exactly again?

Today's lunch, pretty hearty lentil stew over rice, cost me 31 cents.

A. Soup-from-home (made in a large batch on the weekend), heated at work, is far less time consuming than getting out of the building for anything. Or, at least externalizes my time.

B. People have a lot of time right now. I work 25 hours a week or so (by choice, for a while). A lot more people are working hours like that. Or, a couple that were working 100 hours a week between them are now working 40 hours a week total. If you've got an absolute surplus of time, little "time is money" equations fall by the side. You hang clothes on clotheslines. You cook soup. You walk or take a bus, even if you have a car.

C. Money is also time. Say you've got $80k in the bank (rare, but far from improbable). And your household budget can be economized to $20k (it certainly can in rural America). Barring your icon (hyperinflation), that's four years of nothing-coming-in you can withstand. Or eight years of $10k income.

KFC introduces bacon sandwich w/ chicken instead of bread

Unread postby Sixstrings » Thu 27 Aug 2009, 05:03:11

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'I')n the midst of a staggering obesity epidemic in the US, KFC has doubled down on a high-calorie menu choice. KFC is now offering a "sandwich" which consists of bacon, two kinds of cheeses and sauce between two pieces of fried chicken. That's right, fried chicken as a bun instead of bread.

According to Fox News, the "sandwich" is being test-marketed in only two areas so far, Rhode Island and Nebraska.

This is the nastiest thing I've seen since those "chicken poppers" things, where you have the chicken up top and your straw going through the chicken to your cola in the cup below.

Well, assuming it's chicken breast and not ground chicken parts pressed with chicken fat, then ya it looks alright to me too -- minus the top breast, and at least give me a spork to eat it with. But then, there are snobs who would look down on me for eating drumsticks with my hands.. it's all relative on a technical level, I suppose.

Add to that, the white bread these restaurants use is nutritionally pointless.. so maybe it makes no difference if people just forget the bread altogether. And forget the fork and knife. Heck, let's just put beggin' strips on the menu, my dog seems to love them.

All kidding aside, the fact is that our bodies actually need some dietary fiber. If you just use some good whole wheat bread, or any flour other than white flour, you can turn an unhealthy meal into something decent.
