I saw an Egg-a-Muffin maker at a discount store for $17. It was an electric toaster that had an egg poacher on the side and a meat heater too. Faster than the famous Drive-Through, it claimed. What a hoot.

PS +1 for not eating at McDonald's although we were in a pinch recently and had the breakfast burrito which seemed to have less sugar than their other food, but we all know that wasn't real cheese in their.

I don't have much of a problem with McDonald's food. I have a major problem with Burger King food. Something is seriously wrong with their beef. The few times I have eaten at Burger King, I have felt ill afterward. If I have to settle for fast food, I try to go to Wendy's. Their meat tastes the best to me of the fast food restaurants in my area. Their prices are higher, but it's worth it.

"Food" is a rather specious term when referencing these places, particularly McD's... [smilie=XXpuke.gif]

I love the fast food arguments! It's like arguing Bud or Miller High Life or in Canada LaBatts or Molsen. I haven't eaten there recently, but I think I agree about Wendy's. It seemed more like real food. The "bread" at McDonalds to me is the worst part. It's just weird. I like some bread with substance. I used to work at McD's in high school. I think the bread was different then. I remember I used to make grilled cheese with lots of pickles for me to eat while working the grill.

When out west, I eat In-n-Out which was OK.

i like the classic quote from Ray Kroc's autobiography, "work is the Meat in the Hamburger of Life."

i always go for the fish sandwich, fries, and milk, when i'm on the road.

i like the way the Big Macs taste, but i can't afford to get food poisoning again, and there's a lot of trust involved in eating a Big Mac.

A Sonic recently opened up in our region. Anyone have any opinions on whether their food tastes like "real" food?

Absolutely shocking video showing a science experiment done by Morgan Spurlock using McDonald's food. Them fries are freaky.

I love their malts. They still have malt powder.

They have a big variety on their menu and most of it is average IMO.

But if you just gotta have a foot long chili-cheese Coney (island dog) with chili cheese tater tots and chocolate malt then Sonic is the place for you!

:)

Their cherry limeaid is pretty good too (they have lots of original syrupy drink concoctions as well).

+1 on that. They are great. It's the only thing I've ever had there actually.

We saw a sign advertising Sonic Deep-fried Mac and Cheese Bites (Review), that sounded kinda scary. But apparently it is a "legitimate" food.

Not like the abomination of cheeseburger fries.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')he fries, which look like a squat version of standard French fries, are made of a meat-and-cheese compound that tastes -- as the name suggests -- like a cheeseburger.

Very simple answer. Too much salt and not enough moisture in the fries for them to mold. I've got dried buffalo meat that's been sitting in a cloth bag in my closet for two years that's perfectly edible.

Try the same experiment but add 1/4 cup of water to the jar and you'll get a very different result.

We don't have any in the city of Chicago, but out in the 'burbs, I love to stop at a Steak n'Shake. I don't know how big the chain is, but the shakes are delicious, and use real dairy.

I've also eaten at Dairy queen, but mostly in the summer.

Gosh darn it, we've just had a major snowfall, and now I want a milkshake. (we're kinda snowed in right now.)

I haven't eaten at McD's or any other fast food joint (except Subway a couple times) for over 10 years, but I do recall the fries being pretty moist. I think the reason the fries don't biodegrade has to do with the oil, the salt, and possibly the GMO potatoes. I'm not sure when that video was made, but I know McD's and other fast food joints used to use lots of trans fatty oils. As you probably know, if you were to put a stick of trans fat margarine on a table and leave it exposed, no microorganisms will go near it. The fries are dehydrated a bit before they are shipped to the McDonald's stores, and then they get deep fried in oil (probably GMO soy) so their water content is minimal.

Anyway, you gotta be a sadist to put that stuff in your body.

Edit- just found this after doing a web search:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'A') variety of nonprofit organizations, universities and private companies are at work on creating potatoes that would be resistant to fungi -- like the late blight that caused the Great Potato Famine in Ireland -- and viruses.

In the spirit of this topic: We eat out at least once a week but since the economy is tanking and restaurant prices keep climbing we have started going to fast food places more and more. You still get the convenience of not cooking when you have little time but you don't have to leave a tip.

A lot of you might turn your noses up at McDonalds but I just don't see that it is any worse for you than say, Chili's or Cheddars or any other steak restaurant.

I can see why McD's is showing higher profit, people still gotta eat, some are working more than one low paying job and don't have time to whip up something organic everyday.

You folks really are missing the significance of this story. What a large increase in the number of people eating at fast food joints is reflective of is a large number of Homeless people.

Where is the CHEAPEST place you can eat if you have nowhere to do your own cooking? Mickey D's! Or any other Fast Food joint with relatively low prices per calorie of food they serve up.

Mickey D's is serving for the moment as a Soup Kitchen to the poor, while they at least have a few dollars for a Happy Meal. When the Goobermint starts handing out Food Coupons, no doubt Mickey D's will take them. They have the food distribution and preparation apparatus in place already.

Many of our employees buy coffee, lunches and snacks from McDonald's due to location, traffic, speed and convenience, not because of price. We do a lot of commercial work for several McDonald's locations, so we receive a lot of freebies.

Our taller vans, service trucks and bucket trucks can't go through many other drive-thrus due to clearance issues, plus many other drive-thrus are too slow.

Speed and clearance varies substantially by location as well.

Speed is extremely important for people that only have a 1/2 hour for lunch.

I don't know about doing That, chuckmak. There was a docufilm about a guy who did an experiment--he ate only MickyDs for one month, getting a physical at the beginning and the end. He gained loads of weight, his blood pressure shot up, etc; the doctor said he was in danger.
I can't think of the name of it--does anyone remember?
