Eschatology is an interesting thing, and I've spent a fair bit of time researching it. But when it gets really fun is when you run into those rare people who have the high hit rates over long periods of time.

The only other prophet I've found like that is Malachy - which made it all the funnier when the current pope chose his papal name. Do we play to it, or is it really already decided?

It will be interesting to see how Vanga turns out. Based on what's reprinted from the newspaper, we should know in the next couple of years...

Yeah, WWIII is supposed to start in November of 2010 and will eventually involve nuclear weapons. She even stated it would be fighting over energy resources.

You can't get more specific in predictions than that. At the time she died there was no discussion of imminent oil decline in the world.

In 1960 she was predicting a near cessation in oil production in 2018.

She also predicted the melting of the polar ice caps @2033 - also not apparent at the time of her death. Heck, she did a better job than the IPCC.

Since we can see the above already unfolding, I would say if we find ourselves in a world war in November of 2010, I would consider it time to start worrying.

My problem with these profecies is that they do not price in the domino effect caused by them in the first place. The future might change just because people acted differently than usual just because they believed/disbelieved or just spent time on reading these profecies, instead of getting into a car-accident, finding a spouse or bidding on ebay or whatever.
for example

"2256 - Spaceship brings a freighting new disease into Earth.'

It is obvious that if previous predictions will come true than Earth will be shut off all incoming spaceship, which will make this prediction false

Well, actually, I was making a joke about the current tensions in the world.

It would be interesting if it were possible, but it wouldn't necessarily be good if <b>Vanga's</b> predictions were true.

That would mean nuclear war was only 3 years away.

Might be good to live one's life as if they were true. Making the most of the next 3 years couldn't hurt anyone.

<i>What would be very interesting is to find someone who can translate the original texts carefully and really, with a scientific loupe, see if the reality bends to her predictions or if she really truly was predicting everything correctly.</i>

If I'm not mistaken, the Bulgarians(with Russian assistance), did exactly that. The studies must be out there somewhere.

Frankly, I'ld like to continue to look at it as an interesting curiosity. Make it too real and I might have trouble enjoying the next few years.

Maybe getting a sailboat and going Jimmy Buffet would be the best way to go. Do they have saiboat size desalination units? Solar oven to cook the fish. Fermentation tanks for drink, it could be done.
