$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('I_Like_Plants', 'Y')eah those goddamn Unions, fucking communists. Bet they all have a picture of Lenin on the wall and expect fucking health care. Fuckers.
Goddamnit, where are our ROBOTS??? Fucking Robot Olympics (one of the few, if any, activities allowed to legally use the O-word) our kids are doing and still no robot workers developed??? Come on Sony, when will we be able to replace the working class with Asimos? Or better yet Chinese-slave-made cheap knockoffs of Asimos? Then we can just kill off the working class, what a wonderful new world it will be...

Killing off the working class right now, don't worry, its in process.

But the robot revolution was sidetracked by the fact you can't maintain the robots, must less buy them, for the couple dollars a day a 3rd world worker gets. And if one of them breaks, there's more in line behind him.
(Plus there is the liability protection from doing the work in another country. If you open a plant in China, and fill the food with plastic waste and ship it back to your USA sister corporation, untested of course because all that is "voluntary", you can just blame it all on those communists!)

Jay Leno knows how to fix Detroit

Postby frankthetank » Fri 23 May 2008, 19:34:17

Or so he thinks...

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'I') believe that, all things being equal, Americans will buy American. It just has to be as good as the competition; it doesn’t have to be better. The classic example is Harley-Davidson. Throughout the ’70s, the motorcycle maker had huge quality-control problems. Then Harley-Davidson said, “Look, let’s take our time. Let’s build fewer bikes. Let’s build them properly, so they don’t leak oil and they’ll run forever.” Harley-Davidson won back the market share it had lost, and it continues to dominate today.

Even though the bikes might not be technically superior, they’re bulletproof and they’re American. People will buy American if given the chance.

I have some issues with "Hogs" even if they are from my home state. I'd still drive a CBR or a Ninja before i'd get on a chopper with ape hangars, footpegs and a sidecar...

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'W')hen you get into a high-priced, well-made American car today and the key is in the ignition, you hear a melodic bong, bong. But when you get in a cheap American car, like a rental, and the key is left in, it goes plink, plink, plink. It’s just horrible. Every time you use the turn signal, it’s like breaking a chicken leg.

Yup... agree here.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')hankfully, in the past couple of years, they have gotten better. If you look at the new line of G.M. cars, they are almost as good as what the Europeans are doing, especially when you compare interiors. Cadillac has a line of small four-door sedans that are, if not quite the rival of Audi or Mercedes, pretty darn close for quite a bit less money.

hmmm... I've seen 2003 Chevy Cavaliers with rust... going to have to disagree. The interior of my Focus isn't bad, but it still feels cheap. Does have a really nice sound system.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'A')merica does technology well, and I think this is how the companies will bring those buyers back. I think cars like the Chevy Volt, which is entirely battery-powered, or hydrogen cars from Chrysler, Ford and G.M. will take off.

nope...never...

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')he overhead at most of the U.S. firms is crazy, and they’ll have to figure out a way to fix that. They’ll ultimately survive, but I think that they’ll need to change how they do business. And in the future, you’ll see smaller companies doing more boutique manufacturing, as BMW has with the Mini

Man, I thought this was going to be a joke from Leno. Who wants to hear serious analysis from a comedian?

What was really the point of this? To prove that he should stick to comedy? Good job.

Detroit

Postby Serial_Worrier » Thu 25 Dec 2008, 00:55:57

So we all know Detroit is an urban wasteland, hellhole, Satan's playground, etc... The big question is it a burden/problem for the rest of America? Can we just forget it exists and move on?

Until this whole Big 2.5 bailout crud started I thought everyone had already forgotten Detroit exists.

Maybe it's time to resume siege warfare. The "Siege of Detroit"(2017) ended in the total capitulation after Detroit had already been bombed to smithereens...

Don't get too smug. Detroit is just 10 years ahead of it's time.

I was looking at some of the property values and I wonder why someone doesn't just start farming there? There are huge areas with no houses, and the residential areas can't be too contaminated. Keep a bunch of goats in a house at night and wander around during the day. You can have them hallal butchered and sell them to the Muslims.

Just an idea.

Because the people who burned down all of those houses are still living in the area, and even the police won't go in any more.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Dreamtwister', 'B')ecause the people who burned down all of those houses are still living in the area, and even the police won't go in any more.

That could pose a little problem, I suppose. People do manage to farm even in some war torn places. I think the goatherd might want to be armed, have a big dog and keep them in at night.

A few years ago there was a big news story because somebody form a middle eastern country was arrested for slaughtering animals in his own garage. Health department, nosey neighbors, big story. They taught himthe hard way that private property rights are slim to none in Detroit and Slim left town already.

Poor Detroit

Postby PenultimateManStanding » Wed 31 Dec 2008, 16:36:23

It's sad what's happening there. Car industry going kaput. The Lions 0-16, the Tigers collapsing. We've got our troubles here in San Diego. The Baseball team fell apart. Corrupt politicians. At least the Chargers are going strong. Some might say, "Hey PMS, why do you care about stupid games?" I don't know, its fun. San Diego has never won a World Series or a Super Bowl victory. Detroit certainly has. I remember when Tony Gwynn hit that home run in the old Yankee Stadium in the World Series. The crowd gave him an ovation. A classy athlete. I met a PE coach at a local school who played Gwynn in some one-on-one basketball. This guy was much taller than Gwynn, but Tony went right around him like he wasn't there.

I'm off to Detroit

Postby 3aidlillahi » Fri 03 Apr 2009, 17:11:47

I got Final Four tickets and with gas at $2 a gallon and tickets only $20 (for students), I'm heading up there in a few minutes. I don't travel much and with TEOTWAWKI, I figure I might as well get some traveling done.

I plan on going around town to see what's going on if I can. However, I have HW and an exam to work on so I might not have much time. Of course I won't be going to the really bad neighborhoods but just hanging around the suburbs and middle class parts of down will be a pretty brutal (economic) show. Insha'Allah, I'll have something interesting to return to y'all.
