$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('SidneyTawl', 'T')he fact that outright fighting has happened will not be as important to someone trying to spin this and finding a way to spin it as a positive.

Speaking of spin, it's ironic that this happened to occur just as the pope died. If it was an islamic mission to spook the West and drive up the oil price, they got fouled up by news cycle. Media tactic foiled by the crusader in chief...

It took my news source one whole hour to say that OPEC was going to increase output to make up for the problems. Is that all they know how to say? Cause they sure seem to say it a lot, but I don't ever see much actually come of it.

Of further interest:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'U').S. gasoline supplies fell 2.9 million barrels to 214.4 million barrels in the week ended March 25, according to the department. The bigger-than-expected decline was the fourth straight fall.

U.S. gasoline consumption averaged 8.9 million barrels a day this year, up 2.2 percent from the same period in 2004, Energy Department data shows.

Battle Raging Between Mujahideen and Saudi Arabia’s Security Forces In Al-Rass
Apr 03, 2005
JUS News Desk
Numerous unconfirmed reports are coming in from Saudi Arabia that a fierce battle is currently underway in the town of Al-Rass near Buraidah Aunazah.

The official Saudi govt. site
http://www.arabnews.com/?page=1&section ... m=4&y=2005
suggests this is merely a police raid on a house and says "Additional forces were sent from Riyadh to confront the militants"

The Guardian
http://www.guardian.co.uk/international ... 80,00.html
mentions that al-Rass is 355km northwest of the capital Riyadh.

That would point it in the wrong direction for direct involvement of Ghawar. Its runs vertically and a several kilometers NNE to SsE of Rihad isn't it.

Of course Riyadh is close and ..... spin spin spin.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '[')b]Clashes Between Mujahdeen And Saudi Security Forces Rages For Second Day
Apr 04, 2005
By Ubaidah Al-Saif , Translation © Jihad Unspun 2005

In the battle between Mujahideen and Saudi Sulul forces in Al-Rass, 220 miles northwest of the Saudi Arabian capital of Riyadh, the gun battle is continuing. The clash that broke out early Sunday has so far killed 3 Saudi (Sulul) security forces, 25 other security agents were injured, some seriously and one Sulul security agent was captured.

After the Mujahideen foiled a landing attempt by paratroopers as yesterdays events unfolded, orders were issued by the Saudi Royal Palace to the Interior Ministry to end the operation by any means necessary, even imploding the buildings where the Mujahideen are positioned if required, regardless of the potential of civilian and security casualties. A Saudi rapid deployment unit, emergency teams and commando squads were rushed from Riyadh and Madinah to reinforce Sulul security forces.

"The operation is continuing. The security forces have surrounded them. There is still gunfire from the besieged building," interior ministry spokesman, Brigadier General Mansur al-Turki, said.

Earlier yesterday, a large contingency of Sulul security forces arrived from Anizah and completely surrounded the town where the conflict is raging. Some sources indicated that poison gas was being used by the Sulul forces in an attempt to flush out the Mujahideen. A heated exchange of gunfire was reported and thick smoke rose over the Al-Jawazat quarter of Al-Rass. At least one Saudi vehicle was set ablaze and a residential house was completely demolished. At one point in the combat, the Mujahideen fired at a Sulul helicopter that was flying overhead, forcing it to increase altitude.

Saleh al-Aoofi, the leader of Al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula, was said to be in the Al-Jawazat area directing the battle. Other reports early yesterday suggested he may have been among the casualties however this information can not be validated.

While medical sources confirmed the casualties numbers among the Sulul security forces, there have not yet been any direct accounts in yet on Mujhideen martyred in the battle as of presstime. (JUS)

As Chomsky says, you people have a 'Distorted Morality'.
How many babies have to die for us to be fat and happy? I wonder.
Churchill was right, on 911 the chickens came home to roost.

So don't bitch and moan when a rag head blows up your school. Just say to yourself, that's not evil, it's just self-preservation.

However, I think you guys are being sarcastic and are trying to expose the insanity of blood for oil. So my remarks are not geared toward you guys.

If the monarchy does become instable, the US will declare martial law and take control of the oil fields. I doubt if any nation or fat and happy American would object. Then they will let the Saudis kill each other. Realize that Iraq is a success not a failure. While the US pumps the oil the Arabs kill each other and a few good for nothing but bullet stopping American soldiers. Big deal. The occasional sabotage to a pipeline is just an annoyance. Soon, they will become completed insolated from the civil unrest in Iraq. Meanwhile, you the taxpayer gets to pay for it. SWEET! Actually, civil unrest and insurgency is good. The people can't unite and boot the US out. So I believe a similar scenario will happen in other major oil producing countries. However, this looks nothing like an uprising thus far.

Regards

Winston Churchill predicted 911?

I belive EC is referring to Professor Ward Churchill, who has been under attack for a while due to his unpopular views about the 9/11 attacks.

I've been reading and listening to Ward Churchill for a while. Even before the character assasination.

500,000 children suffered died because of our sanctions on Iraq durng the 90s. Madeline Albright says it was 'worth it'. We have killed over 100,000 Iraqi civilians. They are considered as 'collateral damage.'

My point was that if we have this cavalier attitude towards life (unless your name is Terry Shiavo), then do not bitch and moan when others put no value on your life.

Of course this has been going on for a long time before Iraq. We can refer to Nicaragua in 80s. Cuba in the 60s. And so on.

Turn about is fair play, you think?

Regarding the U.S. draft. I don't think the US really cares about conquering. Just controlling the assets until they can get their dictator in place. This will not require war. Which may not require a draft. A perfect example is Afghanistan. If they can keep Allawi in power in Iraq, then it's all good. So what if there is a civil war and/or insurgency. The more kaos the better.

Hmm, so it's still going on. "Poison gas," probably tear gas or something a little stronger. In the end the regime will probably blow up the houses with some kind of artillery.

Frankly I wish they'd have done it sooner, the better to recover intel such as computer discs the terrorists might try to destroy. On the other hand, if the Saudis care to ask, we can still read those discs and give them the data, after making enough copies to keep a few dozen of our own analysts busy.

Re. "self interest" item again: (add the usual rebuttals here).

Re. "martial law": no, we won't need martial law in the US if/when the Saudi regime topples. If we get engaged over there it will just be part of the ongoing permanent state of emergency. And if street-protesters made any difference here, the present Congress would pass a law requiring them to use Diebold computers, and they would disappear like votes, er, uh, like magic!

I'm starting to think it would be interesting to set up a "betting pool" for regime changes. List all of the usual countries. For modern democracies, an electoral defeat for the party in power counts as a regime change.
