$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('LEGEND', 'F')irst post don't really know where to start but here goes.

I first discovered peak oil around a year ago on a website called Exit Mundi. I started looking into it because it made a lot of sense. I found this site around 8 months ago and have just been reading the forums and never really felt like posting anything. I understand the concept of peak oil pretty well and makes sense to me 100% that oil is a finite resource that will peak in production eventually. What really made me understand is how US oil supply has allready peaked and so have a few other countries.
Hate to ask questions on my first post but this has been bothering me for some time:

My first question is about alternatives and if any one could give me some solid facts on net energy about solor, wind, ethanol, nuclear, and others can't really think off right now.

And also information regarding geothermal because in Zeitgeist they really seem to push it like its a real likely alternative but not really any information on the technology about it.

So net energy statistics on alternatives and information on geothermal.

Thanks.

Welcome.

This place really does have all the answers. Sometimes you just have to read a bit. You may not like what you discover...

But in a nutshell, expect major changes in lifestyle. It's impossible to operate all the freeways, cities, airplanes, homes, war infrastructure, and (what remains of) industry by burning food, turning windmills, tapping underground steam or with any other non fossil-based energy source.

If he's not angry he's not paying attention.

There's no reason to be angry about anything. I'm paying attention, but I'm not angry about anything. In fact, I'm fairly happy. :)

I'm not angry about peak oil. That's just a fact. I am a little miffed about Paulson spending trillions to bail his pals out, however.

Yes, miffed. It's quite annoying. I also sometimes get sad thinking that Americans just voted for more war again.

I still get sad and annoyed once in awhile. :)

8) Welcome.
You will find this is a very busy site with all types and points of view well represented. A new point of view from the industry will be especially helpful to help counteract some of the tinfoil hat crowd. Some would say I am in that group.
Note that if your hustling a product you will be completely ignored.

One question comes to mind. What do you do with the water you pump out of a coal seam and how contaminated is it?

President Putin and President Bush at the wheel a 1956 Volga.
Did I lend it to them?

Putin says
"This 1956 Volga is an early example of Russian engineering Excellence. Let's talk about nuclear proliferation"

Bush replies
"I drove something like this, this one time, back in band camp "

Putin is about to make a statement about mutual cooperation in global leadership but is cut off...

Bush says
"Want some jerky? It's pretty good!"
If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face--for ever."

Hello to everyone...

Unread postby Umber » Thu 11 Dec 2008, 12:30:24

Howdy to all you Peak Oil folks. I’ve been hanging about here for awhile and thought I might as well make that first post. I’ve seen more intelligent discussion here of the mess we’ve gotten the world (and ourselves) into than on any other site I’ve found thus far. Nice to know there’s a fairly large group of thoughtful individuals out there who realize that there are going to be some very serious changes in the way we live our lives and that these changes are probably going to come sooner rather than later. Maybe we can be of some help to each other.

I don’t know how much useful information I’ll be able to provide, but I’ll at least try to keep my asshattery at a minimum when I post. If I have any expertise it would be in blacksmithing / knife making, firearms, organic raised bed gardening and staying afloat financially in hard times. Hard work and common sense go a long way to insure survival. I’ve often had to do too much of the former for lack of the latter… and there’s a lesson to be learned there somewhere, I’m sure.

Good luck to all of you now and in the days ahead.
