$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'S')he said she had been speaking on a hands-free cell phone while driving across a rain-slicked bridge in downtown Portland on Saturday when she lost control of her SUV. It smashed through the guardrail and plunged into the water.

If she wasn't driving a Big Heavy SUV, maybe she wouldn't have gone smashing through the guardrail in the 1st place?
I think it's likely!

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('generikan', ' ')... After realizing it would cost $100 to fill up his tank, owner figured it was cheaper just to get rid of his (FINANCED)gas guzzler.

LOL... that is funny! :-D

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('mgibbons', 'N')o doubt. Although of course on a bike, really a geo metro is almost as bad as an excursion.

actually, i'd argue a geo-metro isn't nearly as bad. i know what you meant....if it HITS you it's just as bad (maybe), but my concern is the probability of getting hit in the first place.
Aside from their sheer mass, one of the SUVs worst characteristics is their tendency to have huge multiple blind spots.
A co-worker of mine got knocked off his motorcycle, badly breaking his ankle, when an SUV changed lanes without seeing him.
a few days later an SUV cut me off on my MC, but fortunately i give all SUVs plenty of room and expect them to do stupid things, so nothing happened, but i rode up next to them at the light to give them a piece of my mind. they seemed like a nice couple, and felt really bad, but their exact quote was " gosh, were so sorry, but we really didn't see you!" to which I responded "well maybe you want to think about getting a car where you can actually see other vehicle on the road." they of course had no response to that.

being that high up plus the length really kills their visibility.
I also once got sandwiched between a car (something like a nova or malibu) and a porsche while riding my bicycle home from work. The porsche changed his mind about peeling off to the right on a side street and steered right back into me and the car. My thigh literally tore the passenger side rear view mirror off the poor women's car. I didn't get more than a slight bruise. If that had been and excursion, i might have torn the mirror off with my face.
so yeah, i'll take a geo metro any day!

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('theheretic', 'I')n California, the price just rose from $2.33 last week to $2.37 on Saturday to $2.41 Monday. I wouldn't be surprised if it hits $2.45 by Weds.

People with SUV's ARE complaining about the cost of gas. Most of them blame the oil companies scamming them and don't do much else. A few are starting to carpool, however, which has proven interesting. And at my work, the boss, an SUV driver, has just authorized same schedules for some coworkers who commute in from the same town 40 miles away. Carpooling is starting. I asked these SUV owners what it costs to fill their tanks and how often they fill them. They say they have to run the gas pumps twice because the pumps stop at $50 to insure payment, and that its close to $100 per tank of fuel, which requires fuel 2.5 times a week. Have they changed their driving habits? Not much. They still floor it when showing how fast they can go out of the parking lot. They still laugh like fools, but they've got a bitter undercurrent about how much they're paying. Not one has suggested trading their behemoths in for something small and fuel efficient, however.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Zechs', 'A')ttach a 180 degree swing arm on the side of your Scooter. Attach a Claymore to the end of that. (The Mine, not the Sword). If someone is tailgaiting you, release the swing-arm so that the claymore, which was facing towards the front, is now facing towards the offending SUV.
Lift the plastic safety housing of the arming switch. Arm and Detonate.
Questions?

I like it.
I'm experimenting with a small release mechanism connected to a hopper of small diameter steel bearings. The tailgater won't see it but will immediately hear them as they start ricocheting into his undercarraige. As he brakes maybe you get lucky and one puts a ding in his windshield.
I'm also thinking about an old classic, the smokescreen. An oily cloud of green/black fog right across their windshield.
Caltrops are another thing thats a lot less ethical. If the spikes don't take out your target's wheel, it will probably take out someone elses. [smilie=5moped.gif][smilie=car3.gif]

Yeah, I read about that a couple of hours ago. Really made me roll my eyes...

At this rate of "improvement" the H6 should be actually fuel efficient.

GM is set to make a small fortune in the auto business. Unfortunately, they started with a large fortune.

In all fairness the "new hummers" are actually smaller then the military grade spec hummers of the original. I remember when they were first introduced (to the military). Arnold Schwazenagger (this was back when he was the terminator instead of the "governator" ^_^) wanted one and when the media picked up on that it's popularity spread like wild fire. In fact the hummer today is so far removed fromt he original I don't think it should even be called that. It's a completely different car. The only thing it has in common is the name.

At this rate the H9 hummer will be size of a toyota corolla. 8)

Free gasoline for SUV's, courtesy US government.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'O')wners of gas-guzzling SUVs and other heavy vehicles who use them entirely for business can get Uncle Sam to pay for four or more years of fuel costs -- in the form of tax breaks. It's hard to think of a worse formula for wrecking the country.

Just when I thought I had seen it all. So much for conservation.
