I think he'll definitely be back lurking, even if he can resist the urge to post.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('dinopello', '
')I hope you are right. It's more interesting to think of him as a real character and not some keyboard jockey charlatan. Didn't his wife/girlfriend post here too? Usually she would describe what a strong and decent man he was if I recall correctly.
That's the impression I got from talking with him. I wasn't down with his bad mouthing Pops. Not cool. But what the heck, we're all complex.

I don't think so. If they were the same person, they were darned careful. Despite thousands of posts each, not even once did they post from the same IP address.

Rocc-

If you are still reading. I was talking with my sister today. She said this huge lady that she works with, her mom and her aunt are BOTH having angioplasty done. They both are on medicare at least (they may have other insurance?). I can just imagine what they look like (the lady my sister works with already had knee replacement..shes about 275 and shuffles when she walks). These people are eating themselves to death.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Specop_007', 'I')f the elections are not held I'll betchya he comes back, if for only one post.

Since you bring up the same situation Roc and I talked about last, I'll offer the same bet to you which I did to him; I'm sure you know my wager.

Either I'll post no more or you (and any IP close to yours) won't.

In fact I'll offer it to anyone: if there are no elections on 11.4.08, on 11.5.08 anyone who takes my bet can have free run of my account here for as long as they can - just send me a PM before election day and I'll send you my password on the 5th if I lose.

If I win then you lose here.

Just to make things clear I'm way outside the bounds.

I've thrown a gauntlet, but any Mod can step in should they see fit...

Or at least be ready to ban my account on November 5th.

I've had my suspicions about those two for quite a while. I remember having arguments with Gideon when he was new, and the style was just too similar, along with the timing and the fact that Cash repeatedly claimed that he had been around here for a while. I think he was telling the truth. I wouldn't be surprised if he shows up again with a third nick (fourth? Who was PopeGideon?) at some point down the road, when ts REALLY htf.

Hmmm.........Now it starts to make sense.

Rocc bet Pops that the election wouldn't happen on Nov. 4th? And Rocc was going to have to give up his account if the election happened?

Well, the election is going to happen.

Rocc was going to lose his account in a couple of weeks anyway....

Its much more dramatic for Rocc to claim he will never post again because he is going into seclusion to hide from the world's travails in his bunker, then for him to never post again because he lost his foolish bet about the elections.

I'll bet the bet with Pops is the real reason Rocc stopped posting. Rocc isn't hiding from societal collapse....

Rocc is hiding in a hole so he can welch on his bet to Pops.

Hey man how are things up your way? Finally got a little rain here today.

Maybe my not posting again and letting the winner use my account ain't much of a prize but that's all I got.

Anyway the bet is just what I said:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'i')f there are no elections on 11.4.08, on 11.5.08 anyone who takes my bet can have free run of my account here for as long as they can

And I'll not post again.

If there are elections, whoever takes the bet will never post here again.

Nothing complicated.

Actually Plant I bet Rocc. If there were no elections my account would be locked forever. If there were elections, his acocunt would be locked forever. Rocc was pretty confident there would be no elections and Bush would stay in power.

Pops,
Rain. Little chilly. Same ole same ole though. Wifes business is doing better and better suprisingly.
As for the bet, nope. I like posting here. Theres a difference between having to get a new account and never posting again. More to the point, I would be your enabler. If you wish to leave then simply click "Logout" and leave. But dont try to use someone else to get you to leave. Your posts would be missed though if you went. :)

Spec's right about their bet I'm sure thought I didn't see that.

I'm like you Spec, between beer and PO.com I'd probably have to give up beer first! Hell in the past I've quit drinking longer than I've quit PO!

Just backing up my point about people tapping out silly fantasies when there are serious realities to worry about.

Who is (was) Gideon?

I once dubbed Gideon the Dr Laura of Peak Oil.com. His answers were no-nonsense in an acerbically moral way that made him someone you'd love to hate. I took what I could use from his posts (the most impressive being about buying a used vehicle with cash, paying less for it than budgeted so you can afford to fix it up. We did just that with a Toyota truck recently. He would be so proud). I discarded what didn't work for me.
He once accused me of being "hysterical" when I recounted an incident about our dog eating, what I believed a tainted dog treat from China, that resulted in a $200+ vet bill. Sorry, not to link, but I believe Heineken started the thread with something like, China is killing your Dog.

Cashmere was similar in opinion and recently on a thread about a Naomi Wolf interview he (She? Hell the avatar was one of a morbidly obese woman in a pink dress- who knows on the Internet) referred to her as "hysterical," but another poster observed her to be passionate, which is what I thought too.
That I linked the two as the same look like a coincidence.
Given Smallpoxgirl's revelation in this thread that Gideon/Cashmere have different IP addresses, they are unlikely to be one and the same.
(Not being Internet savvy, I defer to SMPG's information).
So who was Gideon? I guess you can check the archives if you have time and find out for yourself.
Right now I'm more worried about Pops losing his bet. :?

What I found equally remarkable is that we never picked up on the switch. Gideon went through and overwrote every post he had made before leaving, then started new with Cashmere.

Cashmere never posted form the same ip as Gideon. I'm assuming he switched ISP's and started Cashmere at the same time.

Overwriting all the gideon posts was a nice move. He wrote "Montequest is a certified asshole" in every one. We all thought that was very strange. Now it all makes sense.

Still strange. Gid/Cash ole buddy if you do peek in and see this: You are a Strange Bird! :P
