This week, I harvested the last of my garden... 50 pounds of spaghetti squash... 10 pounds of late onions... 75 pounds of taters. Then, I turned part of the turkey flock into the area to fertilize it until Spring.

This week, I stacked the last of the 5 cords of wood I cut and split (by hand) in the woodshed.

This week, I adjusted the thermostat in the pantry to maintain a 45 degree temp for the winter.

Today, a storm is blowing in from the North and snow is forecast.

Coincidence? Or something more?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('ReverseEngineer', 'H')ow much longer will "regular life" exist for me? Will it be gone in a virtual instant in the course of a day or two, a week or two, or will it take months or even a couple of years (I HOPE!) to spin down here?

You’re becoming too isolated RE. Relax, whatever is going on, it’s just coincidence and maybe not even that. Two years ago, we had a 100yr wind storm that ravaged the local coastal forest lands and parks. And this is in and adjacent to a city. Not even a coincidence, just an unanticipated long shot event, and a real costly mess.

Thanks Pops. I do try to contribute something to the board, a little different perspective perhaps than most have. I also clearly am a confrontational type of guy, but one thing I do try to do is keep the number of Mods I will take on at any given time down to 2 or 3 at most :-) Rocc gave you plenty of grief, I saw no need to add my 2 cents to those battles.

While in discussing the issues apparent to us all here I get myself mighty worked up sometimes, IRL I thoroughly enjoy my days doing what I do. I'm incredibly greatful for my good fortune in all of this. Life these days for me is a daily see-saw, the real life with my friends and students I treasure during the day, and then the analysis of the Apocalypse I see before us at night here with the members of Peak Oil.

In any event, for those of you who think I am nuts and advise me to seek psychological help, be it known this has been told to me many times on the net before. I am thoroughly comfortable with the outrageous persona I project out on the net through my writing. If you write something I find abhorrent or exhibit an attitude which makes me want to PUKE, I will tell you so in no uncertain terms :-) Since I don't hold the Mod strings here, I can get edited, I can get censored, my posts can be split off into other threads, its all happenned to me here of course already. Feel free to do so as you see fit.

I do have something worthwhile to say though, so I try to stay inside the boundaries much as I can. No doubt though, I will inevitably piss some people off :-) ONe of these days it might be you Pops. You never know. LOL.

Reverse engineer

I understand exactly where you are coming from.

I had a strong urge several years ago to start growing vegetables and keeping chickens before I really became aware of peak oil. Maybe it was my age? But I don't think so.

"Coincidences" happen for me all the time.

I'm feeling more and more in tune with nature and feel like I'm almost evolving into some sort of hippy eco-warrior that maybe was always under the surface, but is becoming me more and more every day. I too am "highly educated". I have a vocational university degree. I keep thinking maybe I'm going mad. But actually it seems more like the whole world's going mad.

Yesterday I had a big row with one of my partners at work - I rarely fall out with people. I work in a professional occupation. I had been very happy in my job, but now I have a very strong urge to leave and I'm starting to look for another job. I feel like I need to find a job closer to where I live. There are other issues behind the job situation too mind you. I "bought in" to the property and now have a large debt which I'd like to get rid of, but it will probably leave me with negative equity if I sell now. Nonetheless I feel I have to do it, to get out now.

Have to see what next week brings.

Well Ludi, I haven't entirely given up on the idea I can't control the circumstances ;-) I'm about certain that out there just past my fingertips and just beyond what I have been able to figure out so far there is a way to control the roll of the dice. Where's my Light Saber? "Try not. There is no try. There is only do or not do." LOL.

Far as the Worry being bad for my health, if I die from Worry Complications this is a better outcome than being eaten alive by Zombies :-)

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('ReverseEngineer', 'R')occ gave you plenty of grief,

Not a deal RE, I think me and Roc have different paths which we advocated to the best of our ability. Each Member is free to choose which path to follow.

You said you have a different perspective than most, which is good.

But don't be worried about confronting Mods' opinions. As long as you adhere to the rules, our opinions are just ours as members.

Only if someone breaks the rules do we become Mods.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'I')'m still trying to reconcile in my mind uncanny coincidences, including tonight's powerful windstorm here. I have been living up here on the Last Great Frontier around 2 years, and NEVER in all that ime was there a windstorm of this magnitude. Its blowing outside like you would not BELIEVE.

I did not PLAN to move here, what seemed to me to be bizarre circumstances of my life led me up here ever so gradually, moving ever outward from the center of civilization where I was born, New York City.

I am humbled by the compliment Quag. It is a rare thing to get such a compliment online.

I have written much already, probably over 30,000 pages, mostly on my own board on another topic. The same themes however in both cases.

I will continue to write long as I am able to. These days, I do it mostly here on the pages of Peak Oil. I am greatful for the patience the mods have had with me here, and I will do my best to write in such a way as to help elucidate the truth. That is what I do. Its the story of my life.

I have had many times in my life where there seemed to be "something in the wind". I don't know what that is, but to me it has always been indicitive of a big change. I don't know if it some kind of nearly lost instinct, my subconscious, or maybe god trying to get my attention.

I don't believe in coincidence.

I am not a big believer in coincidence either, thus the reason for the ?mark in the subject line of the thread.

I look for reasons and for connections, I don't think all life is random. If it were random, you wouldn't see the organization apparent in it. Let me give you an example.

Plant life and animal life diverged long ago, really this happenned when all life was unicellular if you go with the scientific explanation and geologic record. Given plants and animalsdiverged so long ago, one would figure if all was random that there would be great differences between them, but there are not.

Look at your Hand. There are 5 Fingers on it. Look at a Maple Leaf. There are 5 Points on it. In both cases, connected to the central core of the organism by a 6th link. This is how organisms develop, around a circle. and if you play with circles you find they fit right around each other in sixes.

You can also organize spatially in 8s, and other forms of life do this, insects and arachnids we call them. Its not quite as compact an arrangement though, and at least so far in this existential reality was not the organization that led to sentience.

I do not think that my life was ruled by pure chance. There had to be some REASON behind it, and I ABSOLUTELY could not have lived as long as I have if there was not. I should have died on at least 3 occassions, but I did not. I cannot explain this, I always figured I just got "Lucky". I am no longer so sure about that.

There is reason behind this all, its just beyond my grasp at the moment. I hope that I can figure it all out before the Grim Reaper comes a-calling.

I LIKED Golem's stuff! His main problem was the Wankers. LOL.

The difference between me and Golem is I still have a grasp of reality, he lost hold long ago. I'm barely hanging on by a thread these days though. LOL.

Being close to the far end of the Magical Thinking spectrum doesn't negate the value of his viewpoints.
The main difference between him and joe6pack is that his filters are much more porous. It doesn't mean that everything is not connected, because it is, but having to deal with that fact on an intimate and constant basis can make life difficult. Still, there is much to learn from those out there reporting from the "edge"!
