$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('bonehead', 'I') will not miss:The anti-abortion debate and the thought process that got Bush elected in 2000.When people start starving,we'll get a chance to see how cheap life really is.

I had a back and forth with SPG a while back on sexual morays.

The pro-abortion crowd is in for a rude awakening post peak.

Post peak will be a reversion to conventional norms, like 'em or not.

I think that will work out poorly for me, but I'm under no delusions that independent thought and free wheeling idealism will be allowed free expression.

In 30 years, sleeping around, for women, is going to have a connotation more akin to 1950 than 2008, of that, I'm certain.
Massive Human Dieoff must occur as a result of Peak Oil. Many more than half will die. It will occur everywhere, including where you live. If you fail to recognize this, then your odds of living move toward the "going to die" group.

Try going on a feminist / women's rights webpage like NOW (national organization for women) and do a search for "peak oil". LOL
They are completely blind.

I think every liberal feminist women should be deathly afraid of PO. They should be a million times more afraid of peak oil then breast cancer. Women should be 10 times more afraid of a post PO world then men IMHO.

PO is going to push "women's rights" back 300 years and keep it there for eternity. I'm surprised "social issues" aren't brought up more on this website. There's no shortage of silly debates about electric cars and windmills (I have contributed too!) but yet social issues are never mentioned. It's as if we spend 80% of our time talking about 20% of what's important. 8)

To ask 'What would you miss' implies that we all have a good idea how society will unfold in the next 50+ years.

There are plenty of things that I would like to see the back of, many of them already mentioned.

1) Commuting;
2) Far-left Neo-communist governments, multi-culturalism, feminism and of the other crap that these people have inflicted upon society;
3) The belief that endless growth in material affluence is all that basically matters in life;
4) Auto-centric urban environments (and the noise, smoke and threat to all life that they bring);
5) Mass-produced architecture;
6) Mass-produced, nutritionally drained food;
7) Supermarkets and the urban ghost towns that they have generated.
8) Complacency.

This is a worthwhile topic of conversation. I only have spotty access to the internet at the moment and I don't really have time to craft an origional post right now.
I'm curious why you guys think women's rights are so precarious. I think that it's more difficult to predict social changes than it is to predict most things, which is probably why it's not talked about more.

Why even try to discuss "social issues" when people have already made up their minds we're going back to feudalism? There's no discussion, just "you're wrong, stupid, and naive."

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('cube', '
')for anybody who's read my posts you'll notice that I'm quite the doom sayer however I have never "blamed" big oil, big government, etc--->my position has always been "society made a choice".

I think it is difficult for people to make informed choices when big business and government is shoving lies and misinformation down peoples throats so they can get as much money as possible and feel like they are better than everyone else because they have more than they actually need.

I won't miss the sense of entitlement people have. People act like because they have a better car or a bigger house that they deserve more and are better than. Even if someone else works harder. Twisted mentality.

I definitely hope that BMW drivers burn in hell. :twisted:

I think one of the reasons why we have laws making discrimination in the workplace illegal is because there's enough jobs out there for both men and women.
If PO crashes the economy and there's only 1 paying job for every 2 people who want it, will these laws still be upheld? I doubt it. I think they'll be a bias to give these few remaining precious jobs to men.
I guess everybody has their own vision of what PO will be like: Mad Max, cave man, Eco-villages,.....I tend to get my inspiration from the Victorian times.
//
secondly if we make the assumption that men will always make more money than women on average, then an argument can be made that government social welfare programs tend to target women more than men.
I think PO also == the end of social welfare programs.

What will I NOT miss?

BOLD FACE LIARS who say untrue things like they can get a $7,000 freeway capable electric car that can get over 100 miles range per charge.
I have never met a group of people who can lie so blatantly without shame.
I had to put 1 special person on my ignore list because he couldn't stop lying.

I look forward to knowing those folks will be paying $10 / gallon for gasoline. :twisted:

Ahhh ok. I guess there's many aspects of women's rights to be considered and I doubt they would be equally affected. For example I doubt that womens' right to vote in America would be taken away. Also, there's the fact to consider that differentiation in labor is independent of egalitarianism. Men and women can have different roles in society and still enjoy equallity. As long as women are treated like people with the basic rights to life, liberty, and the persuit of happyness I don't really care if there's role differenitation--some feminists would surely disagree with me.

I'm pretty sure women worked during the Victorian era. Either in the home, or as household servants in other homes, or in factories (mostly textiles).

ever since humanity learned to walk on it's hind legs both men and women have worked. It's just that much of the work women did was unpaid work.
I have this theory that the concept of being "un-employed" is actually a modern invention.
Back in pre-industrialized times there was ALWAYS something to do whether it's fetching water, basket weaving, sewing, picking berries, skinning a buffalo, etc...

I would agree.

Only Big Business and the Politicians care about 'unemployment' as it doesn't contribute to the economy and lining their pockets.

Their is still plenty to do, it's just we have other countries do it for us. That won't last much longer.
