Ya know, it really has to do with your "selling skills" and the ability to sell people on ideas.

I tend to tell too many people, or try to... I guess I want to save everyone I love...

Fact is, currently, Im feeling as if Im the looney. I converted my dad and he agrees but he doesnt understand the magnitude of the situation. Getting the "technology will always save us" out of the heads of people embedded in the system seems damn near impossible.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('ReducedToZero', 'Y')a know, it really has to do with your "selling skills" and the ability to sell people on ideas.

That's right. The problem is there is no commission to be made on convincing people that peak oil is a big problem.

The reason that I have mostly given up on a lot of real world discussions with people about peak oil is that I have become so conversant with all of the arguments for and against the peak oil thesis that it's just not fun for me to shred any argument that someone comes up with for what "they" are going to do, or what the government could do if it wanted to, or what technology will do for us at some point in the future.

It feels like playing Whac-A-Mole with a jackhammer.

There are, of course, more rigorous discussions to be had about the various peak oil scenarios, but most people aren't interested enough to spend the time to really get up to speed on the issues (and when they do, they tend to turn doomer), so you wind up talking to people who don't know that much about the issue, but still believe that there is a simple solution that you have somehow completely overlooked.

Hit with a ton of bricks is a good description of my enlightenment to PO.

Felt sick and despondent...like I was told I would die within few weeks. Felt like my life had been ripped out from under me. It took me a week to get back on track and shake the depression when I first found out about PO.

I had a first date with a fellow, and my daughter called me on my cell and said "Mom, don't talk about oil, he will think you're nutty"

Been aware of oil problem since Uni in 70/80's, but only recently joined the economic dots. First time I shared my concern, an employee looked at me as though I was slightly mad.

.. and then went on to explain how Hydrogen powered vehicles would solve the problem??
