Good luck with that...

The problem is, of course, that not only is economics bankrupt, but it has always been nothing more than politics in disguise... economics is a form of brain damage.

Mower : everything is about beer on this site. That's pretty fun trying to convinve drunk people they running out of beer :)
IMHO, you should better give up.
Actually, seems everybody gave up anyway. Because of PO, even USA considers war more efficient than changing american life style or developping alternative energy.

well basicly get the facts straight, lots of crap in that post.

Like this:

Peak oil is a theory, not a crisis. Having said that, I don't mind listening and won't bother with worry.

Well sorry Peak oil is not just a theory, it's a PROVEN theory, USA 1971 peak etc. etc.

Mower, try sending the naysayers to this post on the Yahoo Energy Resources forum:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/energyres ... sage/71842

This is the US Department of Energy itself being told by its own hired consultants that Peak Oil is real and happening. Or just send them to the forum:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/energyresources

They don't even have to register unless they want to post, but there's a wealth of information about the current and future situation. Hey, even the TV show Alias mentioned it in a scene last night. You can try sending them to www.dieoff.com, but the name alone puts off so many people that I hesitate to send newbies there. There's also:

http://www.asponews.org

That's the Association for the Study of Peak Oil. Their most recent newsletter, #51, can be found there with the DOE report in it along with a very nice graph that shows the peaking scenario.

The bottom line, though, is that trying to convince people who don't want to look at the facts is pretty frustrating and ultimately a waste of time.

BTW, has it occurred to you that the illustration you use as part of your signature line over there might not go over too well with the female posters? That might have more of an effect on your credibility than anything we can offer.

I went over and read a bit...

Hornit has it pretty much straight, I think. Shanya doesn't seem to understand the time line - maybe explain that PO means supply exceeds demand and it's physically impossible to catch up. One of the other guys is a "don't worry - be happy" type, which is okay for him I guess, but not worth worrying about. I wouldn't spend much more time at it...

Exact dialogue describing peak oil in last Alias

Unread postby STX » Sun 13 Mar 2005, 12:25:12

Jack: Well considering the rapidly growing demand for fuel in
nations like China, India not to mention the world's oil
production is expected to peak in the next five years and
then sharply plummet, I think it's pretty clear were looking
at an exponential rise in the global conflict along with an
energy crisis of unfathomable proportion. So yes I'd say a
hybrid is an excellent idea.

Mower I'm very impressed, how can you have the patience with people who just don't want to know? I get stopped in my tracks whenever someone suggests that I'm a nutter. In fact it was my lack of talking about PO after my families initial reaction (they thought it akin to being involved in a cult) that convinced them that the energy problem was real.

Strangely though, i think i'll be revisiting that forum!
