$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('mystiek', 'H')opefull-there definitely will be blessing amidst the change, the Waltons was a really neat show, but of course its still Hollywood.

My father in law always pointed out that the Waltons were quite well to do. They owned a mountain and drove an automobile. We should all be as fortunate as the Waltons! :wink:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('hope_full', 'I')'m a student of history and a fan of history and I have written more than a few articles about the early years of the 20th Century (which was a fascinating time). And my parents were teenagers in the first years of the Great Depression. I know that we can survive tough times, as long as we're careful and prudent and don't panic. Most importantly, we need to pay extra close attention to our history so we can figure out what's coming next.

This is a big if. I go to school with people who panic if their cell phone doesn't work. What is their reaction going to be when they *gasp* realize that they are going to have to give up their sugarcoated life for a life of hard work? I sense a major panic when people first realize this.
...and somewhere, right now, Jimmy Carter is laughing.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('pstarr', '
')I am especially looking forward to the thunderous silence of vehicle after vehicle sitting, rusting, to make no sound ever again. Ah, I almost get giddy just thinking about the beautiful silences to come in the near future...

Graveyards are quiet but I'm not looking forward to living in one on a planetary scale.

But back to the topic. I don't give up because I'm not made that way. If PO turns out to be half as disastrous as is predicted on this board, I intend to be around to watch it happen. I also want to use whatever skills I have to get my family through it as best I can. If I die it will be after I have tried everything to live. Which is why the backyard looks like a construction site (garden) and the stacks of rice are annoying my wife. Its still not enough but I try to make myself more survivalable everyday.

Its very encouraging to hear that my husband is not the only annoyed spouse! I have quite the lineup of the large white buckets with flour, wheat, sugar, beans, etc, canned foods that have to be hauled to the basement storage area every week, usually by my husband. I just remind him that he likes to eat so its worth the little extra effort and yes he would rather have a nice perfect green lawn in the backyard rather than my garden that is growing like a jungle. Wait till he sees the several bushels of green beans and cucumbers I've ordered from a local farmer that is going to deliver to my office tomorrow.....(I might be blogging from the dog house tomorrow night-hopefully the wireless connection will work).
