Solstice

Unread postby Laurasia » Sat 21 Jun 2008, 01:55:34

Wishing everyone a happy Solstice, whether Summer or Winter! Drunk too much home-made mead earlier. Beginning the dark half of the year with a slight headache.

Regards,

L.

Where do the weeks go? It seemed like just a couple of weeks ago that the garden centers were opening. :( Summers are too short up here!

I couldn't find the exact recipe on the Internet anymore, but it's loosely based on the link below. However, I substituted apples for lemons, used only honey and it had been sitting, strengthening in the fridge for several months. I'm going to leave the apples out next time. Anyhow, here's a link:

How does one forget how to make mead? Personally, I prefer dandelion and honey in the summer. Apples are much better suited at Samhain. With fresh cinnamon, of course.

Hey ladies! I love you all, but the bull in the china shop prefers whiskey. The recent full moon was splendid.

Happy solstice, Hawkcreek.

We only get 22 hours a day of sunlight down here in central Alaska, but we don't begrudge you guys at Prudhoe your extra two hours a day.

We'll get it back next winter.

Cheers and happy SUMMER SOLSTICE to all!!!

The solstice left me with this vision:
Deep in the mountains, in a high meadow, the women dancing circling twirling long lacy skirts in the twilight, fog rolling in, the lightening bugs illuminating the fog. Saying hello to the coming darkness, saying goodbye to the waning light. Both our friends.
It was quite nice.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Hawkcreek', 'I') am up here at the top of the world (Prudhoe Bay), where it has been 24 hour daylight for over a month now. So our longest day started earlier than yours. But happy solstice to you all.

Sounds like a great place to live, in the summmer you can go out and enjoy daylight all night and in the winter you can justify staying in bed all day!

Something like 18 hours of daylight here in Anchorage now. We're going to celebrate with a picnic; solstice makes me feel very druid. A little sun worship may help our sun come out a little more here this summer. My garden starts are still looking pretty pathetic.

Generally from here on out, my biorhythms pick up speed and get pretty frantic. They peak in September, just like the other critters, I guess. There's a strong sense that one needs to get while the gettin's good, with the daylight shortening a little bit each day. I don't know if you experience that, PA? Hawkcreek, are you on and off at Prudhoe?
Because it's all about the oil.
