Are you married to that glock-matic?.....

Dont know how many people will get that....

I guess I am slow, I do not get it.
Glock-Matic??
A M1911 A1 is the good old COlt .45. The same that many have fought with since 1911. Just modernized and called M1911A1 instead of M1911.
No, I am not married to it. Although sometimes it feels that way after hugging my hip for 8 to 10 hours. Good thing I exercise everyday and keep in shape, HUH?
Honestly, I hope I never need to use it. But that is starting to look questionable in the not too far future.

It is a quote from an old D12 rap song..... its ok I didnt think anyone would get it.... the ryme just came to mind :)

Thats pretty mild compared to what is going on the 'most of the rest of the world'. Dafur, they steal the food that is suppost to keep you alive, Burma the steal the food thats suppose to keep you alive, Israel they blow you up just because you exist, Iraq they blow you up just because its easy. And you think a tire iron is the 'sign'. You really need to get out more. Go to Oklahoma and help them find the killers of those two little girls and quit crying about tire irons. Do something as opposed to just complaining.

As a matter of interest, how many posters have penned the immortal phrase "And so it begins" on PO.com. I know I did at least a year ago.

I think this time it might actually be beginning.

It has already begun but it is on a time scale that is, at present, running slower than human comprehension; not exactly at a geologic time scale, but at a human history time scale. As the crumbling (what I call creeping dystopia ®) accelerates more and more people will notice and the effects will become evident.

I've been guilty of saying "so it begins" on here a few times myself, although I haven't used that for a thread title before.

For me, it "began" in Sept of 2004, when I saw every gas station in my region (south Florida) run out of gas...every last single one. And this lasted for days and days. Same thing with the grocery stores...day after day of no food coming in = empty shelves. There were no shootings, no riots, no queues with fights breaking out...just a whole lot of nothing doin'.

Granted, this episode lasted less than a week, but what if it went on for another week? A full month? Three months? Think about that a few moments. You have your "thin blue line"...our police forces that keep the criminals from destroying everything. You have the "thin green line" that keeps all of Mexico from invading the US. And then you have the other kind of thin line...the line that separates us from living life as we are now to...um, like nothing. The day the gas stations run out and never get refilled, the day that the power goes out and never gets turned back on, the day that the TV goes black for good, is the day modern civilization ends. And the line that separates us from total doomsday is indeed very, very thin...thinner than just about anyone out there is willing to admit. Granted, that day is probably still a long ways off, but having experienced a taste of that...well, it's something I ponder about a lot.

In the meantime, as the thin veneer of our consumerist society wears off under the corrosive forces of extremely high energy costs, I do concur with Jack...there is a huge volcano of pent-up anger that's going to explode like Krakatoa. When that time comes, it's Katy bar the door time. The riots and burning probably won't last very long, perhaps just a few short days, but it'll change the face of the world forever...and God only knows what will become of us afterwards.
Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide...

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Jack', 'I') find this of particular interest because doctors are usually in the upper strata of society, both socially and economically. It is rather unusual to see such a strong reaction - especially since there are not shortages at this time.

Most doctors have an aura of superiority (I'm engaged to one and know several) that emanates from their personality and mere presence. On that point, it is therefore not uncommon for a doctor to feel more entitled to such basics like food and gasoline over "peons" and "drudges" like the rest of us. This is what I've been saying to people for a while. Rich folks have told me "I don't care how much gasoline or food costs--I can afford it."

My response is based on the expectation that at some point there just won't be food and gas to buy, regardless of how much it costs. I believe there will be gas shortages, and I also believe the government will soon do what it can to reduce the costs for everyone. Gas at $10/gallon, people here say? I don't think it will ever happen. Gas at $10 will cause the whole system to crumble, and there's no way our government wants that to happen. I expect the government to ration based on supply/demand instead of forcing people to ration or cut back based on price. Assuming all people are entitled (or limited) to the same amount of gasoline, how will Dr. Reyes feel when the 20 year-old McDonald's worker gets the same gasoline privileges that he does?

And so it begins... is right.

That sounds rather ominous.

I'm glad I have nothing to worry about. No, wait ... that didn't sound the way I meant it.

Yes it does. Hmmm, is that the black helicopters I hear circling above the house?

All you folks who have never been laid off due to the economy are still playing games with It and that cracks me up.

Black Helicopters are only in the daydreams of Cubicle Herd.

Pink Slip Envelopes are what you are whistling past or perhaps dancing and chanting some Oil Incantation around the pyre of the unemployed.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Roy', 'I') don't understand that post Pops.

Roy, my point was simply that we each will be impacted by a constricting economy way before DHS or Black Helicopters.

I think we should shift from an Internet Office Chair Fantasy Army to the Individuals Doing Something Movement.

Huh, I mentioned that very shortage in another thread this morning. Do you chalk that lack of SHTF up to people being ready for cyclones, maybe?

Crap, I wrote a reply to this thread and it disappeared!

Actually I did but probably because I forgot which button to poke.

Suffice to say, if you are counting on your kids to forgive you because your excuse is TPTB are coming after me, somebody in Power did something, everything is against me...
