I'm sure they were friendly, sympathetic, and went along with whatever oowolf said, so long as he kept talking. That is how an interview works.

Then they went back to their cars and said, "Man what a nut. Seems like he is probably not going to try to kill the president, though. Man, this paperwork is brutal."

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Aaron', 'I') knew some FBI guys who office in my building. Boy scouts everyone of em... With guns.

Sorry you had trouble, but if you're making threats or inciting any criminal activity, then yeah... They will wanna talk to you guy.

It's their job.

And you pay em to do it.
That sure would not be consistent with my reading of history. More like if you're saying things they don't want said because it might embarrass or besmirch someone high and mighty, they will harass you and try to plot you being injured or killed. If they can get someone else to do it, all the better, but they're really not above ramming your house with a tank, lighting it on fire, and machine gunning you if you try to escape.

I've spent to much time talking to too many people that had friends killed by the FBI. FBI is not the county sheriff. More like a toned down version of KGB.

ACLU, actually, yes. I also talked to them about being disenfranchised by the Orwellian "help america vote" act.
I intend to spend my time in the mountains with the elk and wolves, not contending with the state nazis, so my "blows against the empire" consist(ed) mostly of hanging up signs and engaging in passive resistance.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('burtonridr', 'S')o what about campaign posters?
They are not litter?

I don't know about other areas, but here in Virginia, a campaign sign is considered a free speach issue until the day after the election. Then the campain can get fined if they leave signs, on public property, too long after the polls close. I don't remember the amount of time but it's really short, like 12 hours after polls close.

As you should know, I do not carry any so-called "ID". For 30 someodd years this was no problem, now you have to show some so-called "ID" or you can't vote.

Huh. Explain further? If you've previously voted in a federal election in the same jurisdiction, the ID requirements of law don't apply. The ID requirements say you have to present photo ID or a utility bill, bank statement, or a paycheck. You don't have any of those things?

From the freeway blogger:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'Y')ES! Free political speech is a fundamental right under the First Amendment. It is your right as a citizen to display non-commercial signs and banners, with some exceptions. Rules regarding signposting along roadways vary from state to state, and locality to locality. So, call your local department of transportation to find out more. Ask for public relations and say you'd like to put up some American flags and "Support the Troops" signs... they will likely be more than helpful. Don't feel bad if that's not precisely what you intend to put up: this is America, and the rules apply equally to all points of view.
NO! Again, the rules vary from state to state, but here in California, your right to political self expression ends exactly 600 feet from the Interstate, and failure to comply may run afoul of the law notwithstanding that nothing in the Streets & Highways Code or Outdoor Advertising Act expressly bars political expression in those areas. Although it remains unresolved whether they are constitutional, some local laws may be used to keep you from speaking out on the roadways. The stated reason for limiting your right to political expression is that such signs present a safety hazard due to their being a "visual distraction" to drivers, which is perfectly reasonable just as soon as they move every damn billboard, commercial sign and jumbo-tron screen 600 feet from the freeway as well. So long as my local car dealer's allowed to show commercials on a thousand square foot TV right next to the 405, you can call my piece of cardboard a visual distraction, but I'm not buying it. Going by those rules, the only people allowed to address commuters are those who either rent or own billboards, which may be fine for the sake of capitalism, but it's bad for America.

Good for you oowolf. Have you looked into your local laws to determine if you were breaking any or did the nice officers explain all that? I assume if you WERE breaking a law, you would have been arrested or threatened with it. If you were not, why did you promise to stop the activity?

IMO, you should never tell them anything, other than what's required by law.

oowolf firts of all THANK YOU. Good to see some grass roots actions taking place.

Just a couple of quick questions.

Did they use something specific you did as the reason? i.e. hang signs outside your own block etc or was it just a general courtesy visit (threat)?

Did you at any point bring up the fact that you got this visit as further evidence that you are right and if so, did you get any reaction from the agents? (i.e. was there a subtle agreement that the country was becoming fullblown fascist state?)

As long as we still have Some semblence of free speech, I see no problem with what you said (as noted above).
Being too practical, the biggest problem I have with hanging stuff from an overpass is that, if it was blown off it might cover the windshield of someone I know or love who was doing 65.
Not good.

Maybe it had something to do with his post office rampage, or a host of other screwy antics. I like oowolf, but he's just asking for trouble. I'm not at all surprised that the FBI would visit him. And it isn't from posting here.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('oowolf', '2') spooks and 2 county deputies "interviewed" me this morning concerning my "freeway blogging" activities. As some of you know I've been arrested twice for putting up anti-bush (and his war criminal gang) signs.

how much of the harassment is for littering & how much is for the political content of the signs ?
if you put up the sign, and stood next to it, and took it down, so that it is obvious you're not leaving stuff laying around, would they be so concerned ? the idea being to take the rug out from under them as far as the littering charges.

i think it's a good idea to keep a dozen Krispy Kremes on hand for situations like this.

I posted a link earlier to the "freeway blogger" with the website discussing the littering criminal charge----he boasted that he had put up 4000 hand-lettered signs on freeways.

You figure it takes an hour or so to get the marking pens and tape, make each sign, drive to an overpass, climb out and tape it up, and drive home.

That means the guy spent 4000 hours "decorating" freeways with his signs. Thats an eight hour day and 40 hours a week for TWO YEARS doing nothing but putting up his inane little signs.

Thats some serious littering.

Here is an off-the wall suggestion if you would like to continue posting political signs in public places legally.

Why not run a campaign for state legislature as an independent? If you meet the minimum age requirement of your state and can collect enough signatures (~1000) you can start an official campaign and have the legal right to post political signs in public places provided you conform to requirements for posting campaign signs.

Here is an example of what you need to do:
Handbook for Candidates and Political Committies

Some serious issues would arise if the FBI visits you again while you are actively running for office. I would make sure you have everything else in order.

Thats all it usually takes to get the drivers license, right?
