Nice!

They think we are their inferiors, that's what they think.

I read fairly extensively on another 'undiscovered' amazonian tribe, the Yanamamo, and they were certainly unpleasant, but hardly savages as you would describe them. Their culture is as rich and developed as any other peoples.

You or I wouldn't last a week in their world, whether they attacked and killed us or not.

A quick look at your posts indicates you have much in common with these people, as most neo-conservatives do.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('vetusfirma', 'T')he lost tribe they just found in the Amazon is the prefect example of the worst case. Totally savage, at substance levels, shooting arrows at the helicopter. Yes they survived, yes the ones still alive were healthy, but they are like dogs. They cannot conceive of anything out side of their own reality. And what they do see, they try and kill. That is humans without oil. We can do better in the decline, maybe.

savages? dogs? please. they have a culture, and a society--it may be different, but it's there. and it's more sustainable than yours.

the case can be made that they're better off than you and i are right now.

can't conceive of anything outside their reality? react violently and w/fear to the unknown? how is that any different from humanity in general, especially the so-called civilized ones?

we can do better in the decline? we can do a lot worse! it's my tentative opinion that civilized men tend to follow the hobbesian arc under stress much more readily than the so-called savages.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('FoolYap', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('MrBill', 'S')adly to say, only my grandma's and my mom's who know how to properly do pie crust and make a delicious pie. Apple, rhubarb, saskatoon, pumpkin or cream it doesn't matter what the filling is, but the pie crust has to be light and flaky.

I am guessing they used lard in their crust?

Crisco. We cannot get it here in Cyprus. Hard to find lard. They cook with butter here, and it is not the same thing. We made homemade jam the other day with the fresh strawberries in season. Nice. However, requires huge amounts of store-bought sugar, so no cheaper in the end than buying jam from the grocery store. It just tastes better and those cooking, baking and canning skills need to be honed and retained as well as passed from generation to generation. Homemade just tastes better! ; - ))

Vetus seems to be a great example of someone with a very limited take on reality. What irony that he imagines himself to be so smart.

The Amish make great pies, lard and all. That's the great thing about living within close proximity to them. Everyone works in an Amish family; no "single income."

Well, my mother claims she can't get good lard in the stores any more here either. (Was spoiled by raising hogs and having our own, I suppose.)

That, and my father's diabetes spoiled her as a dessert-maker anyway, darn it. :-(
