Same AP story appeared in the St Paul Press on Sunday. It was titled, "Energy survivalists preparing for chaos."
"Open the gates of hell!" ~Morgan Freeman's character in the movie, Olympus Has Fallen.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Aaron', 'T')he upgrade proceeds.
Problem being the long weekend in the US is our host isn't available until tomorrow.
And bandwidth isn't a big problem... yet. Processor cycles however... big problem. (& memory).
Fear not good people... cycles are on the way.

What has been the peak server load?

Shut MySQL down yesterday.

100% sustained

What processor are you running on the server? Xeon? Dual Quad with 8 GB of DDR3 should be able to handle the load. of course your host will probably rake you over that. Good Luck and Keep up the good work and staying on top of this.

Dual-Core Xeon 4 Gig Ram. We'll be moving above that... possibly clustered machines.

Did you all check out the foxnew site and see who they were quoting.

It looks very similar to the global population graphs I have seen to argue for a die-off or the "hockey stick" graph of global atmospheric carbon concentrations. Perhaps this is an ominous sign?

...could be the associated press article by Samantha Gross titled "Ready for Disaster"...saw it in the Wisconsin State Journal on 5/25/2008...nice little reference to peakoil.com at the end...sorry don't have a link. Of course, the surge in the graph started before this article, but I have been seeing a lot more references to peak oil issues in the MSM lately...

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Polemic', 'I')t makes me sick to my stomach. I'm not ready for peak oil to be mainstream. My advantage over the schmucks is slipping away...
What do you bet that gold and silver take off this week with all the n00b buyers along with those who were waiting on the sidelines to buy when peak oil went "front page?"

I agree Polemic, i need another year and a half of global stability and a lack of awareness of peak oil on the publics part for my preparations. It may be wrong but it's either them or me.

The price of a barrel of oil went down, so maybe the story is over now too.

I don't think that the news has an attention span longer than a week.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'Sarkozy: "Demand for oil is stronger and stronger and supply is increasing very little, if at all"')

I would say that the message is being spread to get everyone accustomed to hearing it. It is a gradual process so as not to shock the masses.

Very cheap bandwidth in seattle area, you can put your computer in the building at ATT building in seattle, one of the real backbones, quite cheap like 10 cents a gig download.
also you need to move out of houston and move your yacht business to portland, you have about two years to do this, course may be you just want to check out quick and get it over with, I understand that.

Anyway, nested servers are the way to go in case of peak hits like this weekend. My provider can handle 250 megabyte per second continuous sustained.
Be ready...

25,000th member signed on

3 months and a day for 5000 new members. The surge from the newspaper article gave this place a boost. Unfortunately much of the spike in traffic waned after a couple of weeks.
