May I suggest that we not use profanity is thread titles?

By using profanity in thread titles it rarely adds anything essential, but it makes even the forum opening page inappropriate for kids and adults who don't care for that sort of thing.

In practice, I find that I can't let my kids look over my should even when browsing the thread topics if there is a lot of cursing in them.

Do what you want, of course.

Just a suggestion.

Good suggestion BT. Maybe make it mandatory on sections viewable to those not logged in.

It's really not that hard to simply not swear anyhow. I don't get why people do it so much.

Moderators can change thread titles at will for any violations of the COC, including vulgar or profane speech.

EXcellent suggestion.

Profanity only belongs in the 911 and HOF threads and children should not be reading those threads anyways given the amount of BS that is slung around.

Mods should lead by example.

Wow.. soon you will have to tell your kids what "the" means or "and".....

Swear words are part of the english language, no harm in telling your kids that some others think poorly of those words and to use caution when using them. There is harm in trying to hide the truth when they ask you questions though, liar.

Yeah - my kids have free reign to use all the profanity they want around me.

I do warn them that if one slips out around mom...all holy hell is gonna be unleashed...

Sides...when someone says something as inane as 47 story buildings just fall out of the clear blue sky "because"...

Well - it is time to hit the STFU red button, because obviously that person is not rationale and therefore should not be treated as if they were rational.

My hope is this forum doesn't become "another" one of those over moderated forums. I've already been banned from about 10 of them. You know they ones where the only private messages are, well you know.

I can't imagine why. Everyone knows it means:

OMFG Official Meeting Facilities Guide

And STFU means Southern Tenant Farmers' Union

I wonder if I should start a thread titled:

OMFG needed for STFU.

That should get things off to an interesting start....

Umm...maybe not.

I think Peak Oil forums should have a thread that reports profanity and fines the offenders. This idea has been enshrined by the august body of Warner Bros, actually. :lol:

"Reporting" AKA ratting out...will become staple moving into a collapsed starving world...

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')he forum will have one day a week, on average, where during market hours non-donors will not have access to other than a few selected areas.

I will randomly pick these days, and they will tilt towards high-volatility or "high beta" days in the market.

Note that "Presentations" was in fact exempt during the last lockdown, and will be in future ones, as will be "Ticks". You will be able to sign in but attempting to actually go anywhere except in the "open" areas will fail with an error message.

Attempting to get around this policy by sending in a penny donation or similar will not work - during the last lockdown I immediately refunded any donation that has a net negative benefit, which very small donations do as a consequence of processing costs (that I do not receive) and will do so in the future. In the future, since you have now been warned, such attempts will also result in a permanent ban on your account.

Therefore, if you really are a supporter, you will not be impacted by these lockdowns. If you are not, you will still have access, but outside of market hours on those days.

If you're a loudmouth troublemaker, and you know who you are, you will find that as the subscriber base and traffic levels grow I will and have become increasingly intolerant of this sort of activity.

Further, the last lockdown discovered a sock puppet who had been previously banned but came back on another ID and then tried to donate to throw me off the trail. Unfortunately that gambit was discovered in the lockdown and his donation was returned, followed immediately by the second ID being banned. Don't try it - that is, under federal law, illegal (see the recent case in which the lady who created a fake Myspace profile and allegedly harassed a teen who subsequently committed suicide is now under indictment for violating the terms of service of MySpace which prohibits the sort of "sock puppet" games as well), and I will vigorously go after those who are here to disrupt rather than engage in discourse. If you are contemplating such an act in the future be advised that the potential exists for that act to turn into - quite literally - "a federal case."

This forum is an important resource and I refuse to see it turn into Yahoo. All participants are expected to read the topic guidelines and keep their postings within the boundaries of a particular area of discussion.

Items that have no relavence to the capital markets either fit in "Off Topic", "The Bar" (if of general humor) or should not be posted at all.

Thank you.

Going Forward Lockdown "policies"...yeah right !!! FUCKERS!!!!

I sense entire new vistas opening before me.

Simply write:

Z = curse(100);

Defining X as some innocent person
and Y as good outcomes on a scale of 0 to 1 with 0 being none
With Z defined as lifespan
and i as an integer, then:

float curse(int pain){
int i = 0;
char X[20] = "innocent person";
float Z = 100.0;
float Y = 1.0;

for(;i<pain;i++){
Z = Z - 1;
Y = Y - .01;
}
for(i=0;i<pain;i++)
printf("%c 8\)",X[i]);

}
return Z;
}

This one was my favorite so far.

ANewHuman, swear words are part of the English language, some people think poorly of those words, I suggest we use caution when using them.

If you think there is something wrong with simply suggesting that profanity be used a little more sparingly, I would like to hear your reasoning.

I am simply offering my opinion. Eastbay has made this same suggestion on several occasions, and I think it's a good one.

The deal is, resorting to profanity exhibits ones' intellectual weakness.

Better than an Ignore Button I'm thinking.
The legitimate object of government, is to do for a community of people, whatever they need to have done, but can not do, at all, or can not, so well do, for themselves -- in their separate, and individual capacities.
