Profanity and the Human Condition

May I suggest that we not use profanity is thread titles?

By using profanity in thread titles it rarely adds anything essential, but it makes even the forum opening page inappropriate for kids and adults who don't care for that sort of thing.

In practice, I find that I can't let my kids look over my should even when browsing the thread topics if there is a lot of cursing in them.

Do what you want, of course.

Just a suggestion.

Good suggestion BT. Maybe make it mandatory on sections viewable to those not logged in.

It's really not that hard to simply not swear anyhow. I don't get why people do it so much.

Moderators can change thread titles at will for any violations of the COC, including vulgar or profane speech.

EXcellent suggestion.

Profanity only belongs in the 911 and HOF threads and children should not be reading those threads anyways given the amount of BS that is slung around.

Mods should lead by example.

Yeah - my kids have free reign to use all the profanity they want around me.

I do warn them that if one slips out around mom...all holy hell is gonna be unleashed...

Sides...when someone says something as inane as 47 story buildings just fall out of the clear blue sky "because"...

Well - it is time to hit the STFU red button, because obviously that person is not rationale and therefore should not be treated as if they were rational.

My hope is this forum doesn't become "another" one of those over moderated forums. I've already been banned from about 10 of them. You know they ones where the only private messages are, well you know.

And STFU means Southern Tenant Farmers' Union

I wonder if I should start a thread titled:

That should get things off to an interesting start....

I think Peak Oil forums should have a thread that reports profanity and fines the offenders. This idea has been enshrined by the august body of Warner Bros, actually. :lol:

I will randomly pick these days, and they will tilt towards high-volatility or "high beta" days in the market.

Note that "Presentations" was in fact exempt during the last lockdown, and will be in future ones, as will be "Ticks". You will be able to sign in but attempting to actually go anywhere except in the "open" areas will fail with an error message.

This forum is an important resource and I refuse to see it turn into Yahoo. All participants are expected to read the topic guidelines and keep their postings within the boundaries of a particular area of discussion.

Items that have no relavence to the capital markets either fit in "Off Topic", "The Bar" (if of general humor) or should not be posted at all.

This one was my favorite so far.

If you think there is something wrong with simply suggesting that profanity be used a little more sparingly, I would like to hear your reasoning.

I am simply offering my opinion. Eastbay has made this same suggestion on several occasions, and I think it's a good one.
