I've got a little thought to burst your bubble. What will it be like for smokers when TSHTF and tobacco is either currency and too scarce and expensive for the average pesant, or it's just not obtainable at all. That would be some hard cold turkey.

Well, if the shit did hit the fan, then I'll be dead soon after anyways... so it doesn't really matter.

I've accepted and embraced the fact that I'll never reach old age.

So in the mean time, I'm just gonna smoke up. I might move up to 3 packs a day... may as well enjoy while they're still avaible.

I've been Smober for Five years, eight months, two weeks, three days, 19 hours, 15 minutes and 33 seconds. 83512 cigarettes not smoked, saving $12,526.81. Life saved: 41 weeks, 2 days, 23 hours, 20 minutes. It only took me 30 years and 99 tries.

Only a pipe every now and again. I have 17 pipes now. It's not addicting in the least. Besides Estate pipes are fun to restore.

I think vm enjoys a smoother blend in his pipe as well.

Smoked for roughly 15 years. Was up to a pack and a half a day.

I've postponed my smoking. Havent had a smoke in around 3 months.

When I turn 65 I'm going to buy me a nice bottle of whisky and a carton of smokes. Probably smoke the whole damn carton. I LIKE smoking. I just dont currently do it anymore.

I've smoked ciggies since I was 14 (now 42) and nope...I have no plans to quit.

But I may start punching anti-tobacco nazzis in the face sometime soon...threatened a few so far, but never actually punched them yet. It should prove a most enjoyable experience! :)

Jason, I'm glad you were able to quit. From the sound of your posts back then, it didn't seem like you would.

I quit right around the same time and still wonder at the complete lack of desire for lighting up. Who knew it would be so easy after a month. I go DAYS without even thinking about cigarettes!!

Specop: I do sometimes think that when it's all over and it just doesn't matter what I do, I might curl up with a pack of smokes and a bottle of cheap wine and have at it!! :-)

The last time I tried to quit I felt acute anxiety. Both of my brothers don't smoke, but they take anti-anxiety pills. Nicotine is known to stimulate a reward center of the brain. Sort of like if you mate or make a million in the stock market or kill on the battlefield. Nature's way of saying 'good job.' Nicotine is the counterfeit equivalent. Strange how the brain works. I did manage to quit once. Lasted for about three years.

I quit again on April 4. I started when I was 15. I'm 40 now.

I had a few spells of abstinence in between, one time for 3 years, several times for 1 year. That makes 25 years or about 17 pack-years, as my doctor put it.

This time I'm taking Chantix. Uncanny how much easier it is to quit this time. No overpowering urges or anxiety attacks in the first two weeks. Past quitting episodes were achieved with great difficulty and prolonged withdrawals, as well as weight gain.

The Chantix course runs out in about 5 weeks so we'll see where I'm at then.

I feel better already.

I smoke maybe one cigarette every couple of weeks. It's entirely a social thing.

But I do like nicotine. There's nothing like slapping a few NicoDerm CQs on to your stomach to wake you up in the morning.

I'm at 2 years.

Your sense of smell will come back at about 3 months (good and bad).

I've been doing some hiking in the mountains, I can almost keep up with "Uncle Joey" (age 79, just bought himself a BowFlex machine).

I quit New Years Day 1988 after smoking for 7 years. I was 21 then and this past New Years Day marked 20 years for me. I've never had a relapse either. After quitting for this long period of time, thinking of smoking is wayyyyyyy back there somewhere. I can remember what it is like to take a drag but I'd have to search for it.

Just do it. Make up your mind, set a date 2 months off and tell yourself in the mirror EVERY morning that on THAT date, you'll finally be free from it and never have to do it again. Until that date, smoke your brains out, feel every pointless sickly slip of smoke coat your lungs. Realize that on THAT day you never have to subject yourself to that crap ever again. WHEW!

Don't ever take a drag again.

Smoke a few clove cigarettes a week socially, up to about one, maybe two, a day maximum. Probably going to pretty much cut it out except for occasional circumstances this summer.

I 'quit' last October, from smoking lighly-moderately that summer. But then I had another one on 4/20 while very very stoned... adds an interesting dimension to the high.

It wasn't really viable for me to be a smoker this school year, but this summer and school next year I have more opportunity to be one since I get a car and will drive to school, etc etc. Not that I want to be one.
