I'm about 30 minutes in. It's pretty interesting. He just said that 100 million people in America believe that the end-times are coming. That seems pretty high 8O

The first part is interesting, though I have no idea how truthful it is. Half way through it turns into one of Dukey's tin foil hat films about 9-11. How many times do we have to watch these same stupid "truther" clips repeated? The fact that they would concantenate it onto all the 911 CT garbage makes me think the first part is probably the same sort of BS. An interesting yarn, but purely fictional.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('dinopello', 'I')'m about 30 minutes in. It's pretty interesting. He just said that 100 million people in America believe that the end-times are coming. That seems pretty high 8O

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')he 2005 Yearbook of American and Canadian Churches reported the following figures, based primarily on 2003 denominational reporting data:
1. Roman Catholic Church: 67.2 million.
2. Southern Baptist Convention: 16.4 million.
3. United Methodist Church: 8.2 million.
4. Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints: 5.5 million.
5. Church of God in Christ: 5.4 million.
6. National Baptist Convention USA: 5 million.
7. Evangelical Lutheran Church in America: 4.9 million.
8. National Baptist Convention of America: 3.5 million.
9. Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.): 3.2 million.
10. Assemblies of God: 2.7 million.

And those are just the top ten (U.S. only figures). Granted probably not all of their constituents necessarily believe that Armageddon is imminent, but given that there are also many people who don't declare any particular affiliation but still adhere to various doctrines of faith, I'd say 100 million is probably a conservative estimate.

Considering that it's only been about 25 generations or so since the end of the Middle Ages, it should hardly come as a surprise that so many still embrace such childish superstitions...

Guess you've not done much exploration of the roots of religion SPG. The information summarized in Zeitgeist is well documented if one knows where to look (hint: very little is to be found with a Google search. It requires seeking in genuine repositories of knowledge-in-depth, such as large university libraries, National Archives, etc.)

As for the 9/11 segment, the author of the film makes no claims. He simply points out the elements of the Official Version that have little or no evidential support, or that are contradicted by evidence. He leaves it to the viewer to decide.

Ultimately, the primary purpose of the film is to point out that mythology as a cultural driving force is still very much alive. The stories themselves might change over time, but they're mythology nonetheless, and it is incumbent upon each of us to learn to see the myths for what they are.

Once we identify the myths, what do you think we should do next?

What action should we take now, TWilliam?

The one world government and one world religion that they are implementing will take care of that. After the dollar crashes, the American Union will be ready with its new currency called the Amero. This is one of their final steps. Destroying America was the key part.

You really can cut to the chase, Ludi. Exactly.

Anyway, I thought it was a well done presentation. Almost too well done...

I thought it was going to be a little more interesting though. Based on the first 30 min I thought it was going to be about all the temporal, mythos stuff.

There was some good lessons in there like don't trust people who try to frighten you into actions and don't believe everything you hear and look into things for yourself.

Ludi that's certainly a good question, and one that likely has as many answers as there are people. The important thing to me is that any actions one takes in life might at least be more supportive of Life in general (and hopefully of our own individually) if our decision making is not clouded by various forms of mythological thinking (which, incidentally, is the level of an average 8-year-old in developmental terms. And of most Republicans. Which means that yes, we were all Republicans for a while at least... ) whether of a religious, cultural or political mien.

It will be the end of time for some, but time is not ending. Time is merely the expression of movement in a mathematical language. The natural time cycles that you are accustomed to will be altered in an instance. This is why the Cherokee calendar ends in 2012, it will be no longer valid, the cycles will have to be restudied to create a new calendar based on the new positions.

While I'm agnostic about parts 2 & 3, I didn't find part 1 convincing, despite all the evocative imagery, haunting music, and cunningly chosen footage from clumsy, ridiculously over-acted silent gospel movies.

Horus was born to the widow of Osiris (not a virgin) and he was never crucified, nor was he resurrected to heaven. Also, he had no ”disciples”. As for Jesus in secular sources, the film doesn't mention the ”James passage” that is generally regarded as authentic. For those really interested in Jesus' historicity, Jesus Legend presents a comprehensive study (even the Christ-skeptic Robert M. Price recommends it). Most skeptic Bible critics are still not persuasded by the Christ myth hypothesis.

Yes once the myths start unraveling what should we do indeed...

==AC

Take stock of those around you and you will...hear them talk in precise terms about themselves and their surroundings, which would seem to point to them having ideas on the matter. But start to analyse those ideas and you will find that they hardly reflect in any way the reality to which they appear to refer, and if you go deeper you will discover that there is not even an attempt to adjust the ideas of this reality. Quite the contrary: through these notions the individual is trying to cut off any personal vision of reality, of his own very life. For life is at the start a chaos in which one is lost. The individual suspects this, but he is frightened at finding himself face to face with a curtain of fantasy, where everything is clear. It does not worry him that his "ideas" are not true, he uses them as trenches for the defense of his existence, as scarecrows to frighten away reality.
—JOSE ORTEGA y GASSET

“Full humanness means full fear and trembling, at least some of the waking day. When you get a person to emerge into life, away from his dependencies, his automatic safety in the cloak of someone else's power, WHAT JOY CAN YOU PROMISE HIM WITH THE BURDEN OF HIS ALONENESS? When you get a person to look at the sun as it bakes down on the daily carnage taking place on earth, the ridiculous accidents, the utter fragility of life, the powerlessness of those he thought most powerful—what comfort you can give him from a psychotherapeutic point of view?

…The meaning of his symbolism is that no matter what men pretend, they are only one accidental bite away from utter fallibility. The artist disguises the incongruity that is the pulse-beat of madness but he is aware of it. What would the average man do with a full consciousness of absurdity? He has fashioned his character for the precise purpose of putting it between himself and the facts of life; it is his special tour-de-force that allows him to ignore incongruities, to nourish himself on impossibilities, to thrive on blindness. He accomplishes thereby a peculiarly human victory: the ability to be smug about terror. Sartre has called man a "useless passion" because he is so hopelessly bungled, so deluded about his true condition. He wants to be a god with only the equipment of an animal, and so he thrives on fantasies. As Ortega so well put it in the epigraph we have used for this chapter, man uses his ideas for the defense of his existence, to frighten away reality. This is a serious game, the defense of one's existence—how take it away from people and leave them joyous.

Zeitgeist, oh boy.

When you take a closer look at what they say about these pagan gods, you'll see how badly they've changed and distorted them. Once you see what they've done, you'll see the agenda behind this movie. Here's a rebuke of what they say about Christ.

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... 0528394775

It reminds me of Voltaire's attempt to destroy and discredit the Bible. 50 years after his death, the Geneva Bible Society bought his printing press and house. They used them to print Bibles.

The irony.

The Lord Jesus Christ is very real.

We all need the Saviour, AC.

Having passed from simple faith to experience, I know Christ is very real.

"But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth." [Acts 1:8]

I think it's possible there will be a staged second coming of christ and he will ordain the new world order as his holy empire. Not kidding! Heads of churches around the world have been dropping like flies in the past 6 months and are being replaced by new leadership.
