THE Fast Food Thread (merged)

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'C')harlie Bell, the straight-talking former head of fast-food giant McDonald's, has died of cancer aged 44. Mr Bell was diagnosed with colorectal cancer in May last year, a month after taking over the top job. He resigned in November to fight the illness.

Joining the company as a 15-year-old part-time worker, Mr Bell quickly moved through its ranks, becoming Australia's youngest store manager at 19. A popular go-getter, he is credited with helping revive McDonald's sales.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', ' ')Sugar-Junk foods like soft drinks, cordials, biscuits, cakes and lollies have a high sugar content. Although sugar has not been directly linked to developing heart disease or diabetes, there is evidence that a high sugar intake may contribute the development of overweight and obesity.

In Australia soft drinks have become among the most popular beverages. There has been an increase from 87.4 litres to 113.0 litres per person per year between the late 1980s and 1998-99. This is an increase of 30 per cent in 10 years.

Studies suggest an association between increasing consumption of sugar sweetened drinks and the development of childhood obesity. That's why eating foods and drinks with a high sugar content should be limited. Problems caused by too much sugar High sugar intakes have been associated with:
* Tooth decay
* Increased tendency for blood clots
* Decreased levels of good cholesterol
* Increased levels of blood fat associated with diabetes and heart disease
* Increased risk of colorectal cancer
* Childhood obesity

Skiwi, did you hear the one about the koala bear that went into a restaraunt, ate a meal, pulled out a gun and shot the waiter, then walked out the door. The owner ran out screaming why did you do that? The koala stared at him and said, 'look at me, I'm a koala. That's what a koala does: eats, shoots, and leaves.'

The real burger wars have been going on much longer and the Mickey-D's of the world have been winning so far.

This should be a wake up sign that peak-burger is closer than previously believed. :-D

Seriously though there was something wrong with way these kids were raised, didn't anyone teach them to share? :)

McDonald's... king of health?

Postby NevadaGhosts » Thu 10 Mar 2005, 00:16:32

McDonald's Unveils Healthy Living Campaign

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'S')hifting the spotlight from french fries to fruit, McDonald's Corp. launched a new worldwide initiative Tuesday promoting healthy living -- the latest effort by the world's largest restaurant chain to combat criticism of its food and business.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')he ``It's what I eat and what I do ... I'm lovin' it'' campaign includes television ads, new packaging, an updated Web site and a fresh series of Ronald McDonald videos teaching children how to eat well and stay active.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')he TV spots, which will be rolled out over the next couple of months in different languages around the world, feature kid-friendly images such as snowboarding, jump-roping fruits and veggies and tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams.

Mc Donald's teaching children how to eat well? I wonder if their commercials will tell the kids to stop eating unhealthy McDonald's hamburgers, frenchfries, and milkshakes. Talk about hypocrisy. :lol:
