I suggest then, that you let go the quotes you use as an attack to Eastern Philosophies. Because your Western-conditioned mind will never understand it if you're being misguided by those who never understood Eastern Philosphies.
In Buddhism there's no detachement from organism or life, because it's seen as a network of relationships among energy called partitya-samutpada in the East or deep ecology in the West.
I want very badly to attain a degree of calm and peace as I go about my processes. I continue to work on changing my lifestyle, but I have a tremedous amount of anger directed at society in general. It makes me not like most people very much.
I have a degree of understanding, I see the interconnectivity of energy, but fear the loss of self/consciousness (death). I have this chronic urge to want to save the world, but it doesn't seem to want to be saved.
Enlightenment, if it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

I and a friend used to be there. Angry and apathetic that humanity doesn't want to change, to be saved, to be enlightened. But it diminished, because of meditation and an effort to diminish it. Now it's more a neutral feeling, misantrophy is almost extinct in our minds. We made this metaphors while talking about it:
"if I was a plant and discovered that getting some potion/fertilizer/nutrients was great, and I saw all my neighboors dying, I can say to all: hey this saved me! you can also take it! but I must focus on sharing the nutrients with those around me that have answered the call".
"we should be now basically like wireless access points (WiFi hot spots), silently and invisibly, but consistently transmitting signals of peace, harmony, compassion, and other positive feelings. If someone understands the message and responds then we must act to help him/her. If not, he/she is not ready to walk the Path. We must not fret if no one answers for a long time, and we must not desire that someone specifically answers (ie: a "crush")."
relax, and take it one step at a time. Take care of diminishing a lot your anger against humanity before trying to save it. And you must save yourself first from anxiety, anger and so on. About fear, the decision to be determined to "extinguish past self in emptyness" while dying is a serious one, which is one of the last steps. One I'm not yet totally prepared to do, but that doesn't stop my advancement towards the Path... again, step by step.

Of course you do! Everybody needs to be a hero by crushing the “evil” that is destroying our biosphere [unfortunately for us that is you and me]. The "world" is just begging to be “saved”. What is life if one does not have a primary value, a contribution to a greater cause that transcends our puny lives?
"Each person wants to have his life make a difference in the life of mankind, contribute in some way toward securing and furthering that life, make it in some ways less vulnerable, more durable. To be a true hero is to triumph over disease, want, death. One knows that his life has had vital human meaning if it has been able to bring real benefits to the life of mankind."
"MEN CAUSE EVIL BY WANTING HEROICALLY TO TRIUMPH OVER IT, BECAUSE MAN IS A FRIGHTENED ANIMAL WHO TRIES TO TRIUMPH, AN ANIMAL WHO WILL NOT ADMIT HIS OWN INSIGNIFICANCE, THAT HE CANNOT PERPETUATE HIMSELF AND HIS GROUP FOREVER, THAT NO ONE IS INVULNERABLE NO MATTER HOW MUCH OF THE BLOOD OF OTHERS IS SPILLED TO TRY TO DEMONSTRATE IT.'
But take faith young Jedi all this misery and horror can be magically swept away in a meditative trance by ones own self induced nirvana that can be crafted in the comfort of your own living room [which of course was made possible by the successful plundering and bloodletting of “lesser” cultures than ours]. Get started while there is still time. It is not easy to destroy that little character you been spending your entire life perfecting to protect you from existential pain and anxiety. The good news is that your honest acknowledgement that the “world” indeed doesn’t wish to be saved means cracks are beginning to appear in your armor and it may be ready to be slowly peeled away layer by layer. May the force be with you!!

again, you don't get it. You understand Nirvana as some form of heroisom, while in truth it's an advancement of human condition that is much needed for developing an harmonius relationship with the rest of the biosphere.
I don't know how many times, and to how many people I will say this to kill this virus-like destructive memes but: I will make my best effort so that your memes doesn't survive another generation, I could care less if you pass or not your genes. Your memes that you so dearly and heroically defend are basically: Nihilism, Misantrophism and Matter-only Existance.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('PenultimateManStanding', 'D')on't get me wrong, chimp, but my spirit will be cursing the flies, maggots and Schopenhauer after I've fallen in the urban chaos.
Catchy tune. Thanks I'll play it in a loop tonight while I sleep.
