Ok so I bought a ticket on board the "we are all fucked" train in 1993...

Jumped on board the train in 2003...

Been preach'n "we are all gonna die" word for the better part of 5 years...

Well yesterday my boss tells me not to talk to him anymore about the imminent bone crushing thud ahead of us (by my watch sometime next week)...BECAUSE I HAVE BEEN SPOT ON WITH MY PREDICTIONS...

Anyone else having this problem lately?

My cousin doesn't want me discussing this shit around him, his wife, and his friend. I oblige because he brings me women in the medical field, and it's best not to offend one of my best matchmakers. He only told me not to discuss PO when the value of his house dropped almost $100k; I guess he doesn't like being wrong.

I'm not even going to get started on my realtor aunt; she was so sure that "Housing's not a bubble", which she told me all the time. I'm not cruel enough to deliver the occasional "I told you so."

You are exactly right, someday we will all die. Tell us something we don't know.

It would get very old hearing this everyday. I imagine your boss is saying in his head "No shit Sherlock!"

I've kept my mouth shut about the whole thing for the last 6 years.

Why give others the heads up. I believe it's better to fly under the radar and get prepared while things are relatively cheap. We're doing everything we wanted to do even if PO were not an issue, so we don't lose either way.

However, lately, I have hinted at what is coming to family and select neighbors/friends, but only because there is solid, public proof to back up my delusions.

Yes,

I too am conflicted by weither I should keep on ringing the alarm bell or just keep my mouth shut. In fact I watched a old Twilight Zone episode yesterday called The Shelter.

What you're about to watch is a nightmare. It is not meant to be prophetic; it need not happen. It's the fervent and urgent prayer of all men of goodwill that it never shall happen. But in this place, in this moment, it does happen

Much like what happens in the episode, I say the possibility for all of us to de-evolve into animals clawing our way onto someone's lifeboat is sure. It need not be that way yet there is no way everyone can get to 100%. Yet the moral wasn't keep your mouth shut it was:

No moral, no message, no prophetic tract: Just a simple statement of fact. For civilization to survive, the human race has to remain civilized. Tonight's very small exercise in logic, from the Twilight Zone.

As for me I am keeping my mouth shut and try to remain civilized to others. I certainly would drop the subject with your boss and talk about golf instead. God have mercy on us.

Labusas.org a radical forum that prides its self that no one be banned, put the choke on me a couple of times (the mod runs some kind of harresment script) so you think you got a virus on your computer. Peeps wanted to kill me, so finally after a couple of years of being brow-beat everyday I left. It's going to get real ugly when TSHTF. Some peeps are going to flip out!

Prairie, is that the one about the family who builds a fallout shelter in their basement, neighbors all laugh at him until one day the sirens go off, and the whole neighberhood is fighting over who gets to go into the shelter?

Every once in awhile, I will tentatively bring up the subject with people I care about, but, still to no avail.
I have decided that it is best to tell no-one physically close to us. I have shifted to defense mode-they won't come after what they don't know we have.. at least for a time....

I've been told to keep my mouth shut about this event a few times too. Usually they're a bit subtle about it, as in avoidance.

However, I can't seem to resist mentioning it to a very few closer friends and family. None of them seem to believe it. I tell them the disaster that's just around the corner will far exceed in scale and suffering anything humanity has ever experienced of imagined. I tell them it's on now. I mention it's started already and the destruction of everything we know will accelerate as oil depletes. I also point to crop-burning, soil depletion, water depletion, oil wars, and increasingly desperate starving third worlders as evidence. I mention overshoot and that a six billion reduction in population is about to begin. As people get desperate, they will engage in more crop-burning which will only accelerate the starvation.

They look at me like I've gone mad. They have no clue. How could they be so blind?

EB, you kook! How dare you disturb the consensus trance.

Seriously. Some people are going to die because of the collapse, in fact a lot of people are going to die prematurely. Let it be them, not you.

Prepare! Be ready to help your family and your neighbors. That's all you can really do.

How exactly do you expect them to react? What do you want them to do that is going to drastically improve their survival chances? You've said it's already started. So, what are they going to do? Many of us on this board have only known about this for the past five years or so. Even those that began preparations shortly after their discovery would probably find them inadequate when facing something that "will far exceed in scale and suffering anything humanity has ever experienced of imagined".

I don't understand. What's your point?

I've talked up the 'grow a garden' and 'plant some fruit trees' mantra so many times to the neighbors I can now spout it out without thinking. Of the 50+ houses near me not one are doing it as far as I know. The 'faux green' people in the Portland area generally can't seem to understand the urgency of it all. Plant a apple tree today and get free fruit in a few years. Learn to garden today and in a few years you can do it blindfolded. Few are.

Most don't get it at all.

Maybe plant a vegetable garden and some fruit trees. Quit eating factory farmed steaks. Maybe dump their SUV's. Buy a bike. Scoot around on a scooter. Walk around the block and burn of some fat off their fat dumb selves. Do some push-ups.

I could continue all day.... understand now?

What the fuck is having a small garden and fruit trees going to do for you when you face a "disaster that's just around the corner [that] will far exceed in scale and suffering anything humanity has ever experienced of imagined"?

It's not them who doesn't get it. It's you.

It all startls locally, as has been stated here countless times. It starts with home gardens, home orchards and from there it can expand to a locally produced system of feeding people... at least for now. But no. They just keep on ignoring this train wreck. They keep paving farmland they keep squandering the remains of what's needed. It's maddening.

I do have it right. We don't have to suffer as this disaster unfolds. At least not here. But if we keep on the track we're on everyone will lose all.

I have always loved the game Clue. I just can't resist solving
the puzzles that make others scratch their heads and move on.
So after some sleuthing I am going to solve the murder of
Roccman's freedom of expression for the big win:

It was Eastbay, in the Hall of Flames, with a Shut your Dirty
Stinking Rotten Trap.

The fact that Eastbay appears to be Roccman's boss as well
I deduce was tossed in just to throw me off track. Am I right?

Seriously Rocc, many of us who have brought up the subject
over the last few years to other folks are learning first hand
about the "kill the messenger" part of human nature.
I predict your boss will start to ask some pointed questions
in a few weeks after he digests a bit of a raw possibility.

I'm sorry, but I don't understand this all.

I can see why roccman would hammer this stuff into his boss everyday. He loves to be right and loves to prove other people wrong. He gloats win he wins and makes plenty of excuses when he loses. At least that's what his internet personally is like. The real roccman might be halfway decent.

Others, however, I really don't understand as much. Why get mad at people for not acknowledging that the remainder of their life will probably be short and miserable? What exactly will fruit trees, gardens and bicycles do to have any significant impact in coping with "a disaster that's just around the corner will far exceed in scale and suffering anything humanity has ever experienced of imagined"?

They should be ignoring you. You should stop bothering them and let them enjoy their life. They may not be into gardening or bicycles or whatever. I know that I'm not going to waste my time toiling away with that stuff if, as roccman often says, "90% of us will be dead in under ten years".
