wonderfull thing about malaria is that it stays with you for life.

So if their little vaccine or "cure" doesn't work (which I don't believe there are any proven cures for Malaria), you'll blow through that $4000 dollars in a couple of years on drugs to reduce the symptoms. Hell just the Kleenex alone will run you a couple of hundred bucks a year

Had a professor with Malaria. Its not a pretty sight. He caught it while he was in the 68 Olympics in Mexico, so not even good health will spare you.

However, I might be tempted if they add a couple more zeros to that figure...

Why don't they just test on poor people in Bangladesh for whom $4,000 is the difference between poverty and middle class standing?

Because malaria is a tropical disease. Bangladesh straddles the Tropic of Cancer, and most people that are indigenous to tropical/sub-tropical areas already have at least some immunity, whereas white people from northern latitudes don't, just as the natives of the Americas had virtually no immunity to diseases that developed in the European latitudes.

Because malaria is a tropical disease. Not that the Ukrainians are worth any less than any other human beings. They are just more likely to take risks like this in order to get this money (which means more to them than us).

Mostly likely a couple of dumb, broke university students in the US will sign up, get malaria, and be miserable for the rest of their lives.

Most Ukranians don't have mortgages, car loans, student loans or an un-negotiable standard of living to maintain. I suspect that soon there will be lots of Americans willing to sign up.

There is a cure for Malaria. The current cure for Malaria when it was first (re)discovered in the 70s was literally Made in China.

What they do not have is a vaccine.

In 1972, in the course of this research, Tu Youyou (Chinese: 屠呦呦)[2] discovered artemisinin in the leaves of Artemisia annua. The drug is named Qinghaosu (Chinese: 青蒿素) in Chinese. It was one of many candidates then tested by Chinese scientists from a list of nearly 200 traditional Chinese medicines for treating malaria. It was the only one that was effective.
