$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('gampy', 'H')a! Thanks for the pep talk.

Just had the one smoke I bummed. Didn't buy a pack. Not going to sweat it too much. Even after having that cigarette earlier today, the urges have not increased or anything.

"Still in the game."

Lol...I like that. Thank you, my new fuckin' slogan.

It was a funny situation. I was at the bus stop, and this cute guy just lit up beside me. Maybe it was more about making small talk than indulging my nicotine urge. I only smoked about half of it, didn't taste all that good.

Fuck. Getting an urge to smoke now, talking about this. Definitely need to deal with the oral fixation, and keeping my hands busy.

"Still in the game"...hehehe

You are literally in a life and death struggle. At issue is whether you will die when you are 65 or when you are 85.

It's a big deal. Bring your best game. You are literally at a turning point in your life. You will look back on this struggle with immense pride.

Now get out there and don't smoke!

Actually, I don't think of it that way. Life or death. I am an atheist, so I don't much care if I die because of smoking, because it's literally lights out. Just black sleep. Pain over, nothing.

What really concerns me is the LIFE part of that statement. I think that's what convinced me to quit. I might live to 85 (doubtful, either way), but it's a given that I would be hooked up to an oxygen bottle, and struggling to breathe. Don't care to live as an invalid. Or trying in vain to get a decent breath. Years and years of this existence scares me more than death. I have seen these guys. It's pretty sad. Emphysema, and COPD. Imagine that walking up one flight of stairs is like running a 5 minute mile. Or worse...walking half a block, and you have to stop because you can't fucking breathe. Or you eventually die because it takes so much energy to breathe. After a very long, slow decline.

Fucking shitty way to live.

Nevermind, shitty way to die.

That's my main fear. What keeps me awake some nights.

Lung cancer doesn't really worry me as much as COPD, and emphysema. COPD is going to happen if I smoke. Not if, but when.

Gampy, today is day 8 for me and it's been a breeze...

...but only because I caught the flu and have either been hacking up a lung or knocked out on NyQuil. I think Shanny may be on to something with that, it seems to be helping me, anyway.

Stay strong, man!!

Worry about lung cancer every bit as much as the others. Lung cancer is almost always fatal, but you get to suffer for about two years while your body gradually wastes away. It's very ugly. You want to avoid that as much for the people who care about you as for yourself.

Sorry to preach a little. Good luck! It's definitely worthwhile. You will be so happy when you put a little time between you and the smokes.

Fucking eh, bro. Good luck to you too. Be wary once you start to feel better. That's when you will find yourself smoking again. I tried quitting during a cold, worked all the way up until I was healthy. You will need to remain vigilant.

Good luck my friend. Glad to have someone here going through it, too.

Shit, that's still too long... I'm aiming for 50. That's my retirement plan... die at 50. Who the fuck wants to live to be 80+, anyways. All the people I know who are over 80 are decrepit and miserable.

Maybe you should start smoking.

If you already smoke, have you thought about heroin?

Lol...ahhh, to be young. 50 seems far away don't it? Lol. I am 39 and, and 50 is looking a lot closer. Well, I don't wish to be one of those decrepit, old geezers, but if I am lucky that way, I hope to have some pleasures in my day. One of which is to be able to enjoy a good breath of fresh air. Everything else is gravy at that age, I imagine.

Fuck man...a good shit is becoming one of my pleasures nowadays. I must be having my turning 40 crisis a year early.

----------------------------------------------

Went for a run tonight. First time I have run in a very long time.

My calves are hurting, and stiffening, but it feels good actually. Will really feel it tomorrow when I try to put my pants on. Lol. I can feel the lactic acid pooling in my thighs, calves, and hamstrings already.

Lungs feel good. When I say I went for a run, I meant a long walk with short bursts of running.
Just to clarify, hehe.

That's ok, baby steps. Still no smoking except for that one ciggie I bummed this morning. But fuck, I still have to think day to day. I am having a hard time envisioning no cigarettes EVER. Fucking scary.

One day at a time.

Your skin will start to look better after you quit. Try taking some fish oil supplements and that will accelerate the process.

It's kind of fun to be able to see the veins in your hand again. Improved circulation has to be good for you.

Do your friends smoke? If they do you may have to kill them.

Actually I have been meaning to increase my seafood intake, and reduce my red meat. never been a big seafood kind of guy, plus it's damn expensive nowadays.

I don't have any close friends who smoke anymore. My mom is the only smoker left in my family. We were the last hold-outs. Poor ma. She is going to have no one to smoke with anymore. I am sure I will be a terrible re-formed smoker who will drive her nuts.

Wow...veiny hands. Mmmmmm, looking forward to that, LOL.

But just think about how all that blood will feel circulating in your brain in your newly non-constricted veins and arteries.

Use a rolling pin on those sore muscles. It will help purge the lactic acid.

Lol...I was thinking of another veiny appendage, hehe.

Speaking of which, I am still experiencing a strange lack of sex drive. It's kind of disconcerting.

That will be a fun story to tell. "Yeah, when I was quitting smoking it got pretty rough. One night I got so keyed up I started running a rolling pin up and down my penis. That was really a crazy time."

I am going cold turkey, I am not sure of your path

I hadn't read the whole thread never mind. I imagine I will probably go insane and punch somebody. The several times I have quit in the past, I go through bouts of rage. I use to never get angry before I smoked. and now whenever I try to quit or go a few extra hours, I get incredibly angry and I get this hulk smash mentality. That scares me more than anything. I use to a happy person.

Yeah, the "rage" happens to me too. My boss knows I am quitting, and is supportive, but I have to refrain from yelling at people. I found myself punching myself in the stomach one day. The urges were making my guts squirm and I was really pissed off at the world. I just punched my stomach until I saw how silly that was. It's difficult to quit smoking if you are around people. I live alone, so I can swear, or talk to myself, or gibber like an idiot haha. It's tough man, but not impossible. Not impossible. I am on day 8? yeah...8.
Still have the urges, but I have sort of come to terms with them. You will too. You will learn to kind of put them in a box in your mind. Keep them there for a bit, and let them out when you are in a safe place, with no stressors.

Type your frustrations here, it's all good.

Laugh at it.
Laugh at that puny little fucker sitting on your shoulder holding out that smoke for you. Smash his face and step on his little red body and kick him down the stairs. Fucker. Fucking prick. God-damn sonofabitch shitfaced little bastard. Fuck you subconcious.
Fuck you Id. And fuck Sigmund Freud while I am at it.You don't own me, you prick. I own you. I am the boss. You are my MY vassal.

Whew. That felt good. Maybe I can get some sleep now.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('gampy', 'I') have smoked for all of my adult life and a good portion of my teenage years. Roughly 25 years. I have tried quitting before and always failed after a couple days.

I am about 4 days into cold turkey. Longest 4 days of my life.

When does it get better? Please tell me the urges subside after a few days.

Holy fuck, this shit is worse than heroin. Going a little crazy. Afraid to leave the house for fear of walking past a store. Seriously going bat-shit crazy lol. When do the urges begin to taper off?

Help? I need to quit this time. I don't wish to slowly die of COPD.

I must have eaten everything in my house already. Am trying to drink water when I feel an urge...(every fucking 30 minutes) but feeling a little full and bloated. Uggggh. Any help appreciated. Tried all the bullshit stuff like gums, and patches, but figured that cold turkey is the only way.But man...feels like a month since I had a cigarette...instead of days. Fuck it going for a walk..leaving my wallet at home.

Cigs, the crack of tobbaco...........
