$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('kjmclark', 'T')his is a libertarian vs. liberal battle. The libertarian says "government should stay out of people's business, and if someone goes down hard, they had it coming to them for their poor decisions." The liberal says "not everyone is as smart and rich as you, and if someone goes down hard we should help because no one deserves to die in the gutter."
Luckily, fMRIs are now showing us that the liberals were closer to being right. Hard times tend to bring out more liberal tendencies too. Who knows, maybe people will rediscover that Jesus was a liberal.
The real irony is that many of the people who would now say "poor stupid fools" are libertarians who will change their stripes when it happens to them.
For the record liberals have their own choices of who they like to call "poor stupid fools." I believe it was waylong Jennings who said that "everyone needs someone to look down on." It was "liberals" after all who ostracized the "poor stupid fools" who fought in Vietnam.
Compassion is a lesson that we all can learn, it is not limited to political affiliation or philosophy.
Thank you, however, for the affirmation.
